Innovating for a sustainable future! 🌱 MarinaTex started as a university project, but winning the James Dyson Award propelled it into a game-changing innovation. Using seafood waste and algae, Lucy Hughes and her team are tackling plastic pollution with novel biodegradable films and coatings. We’re excited to see how MarinaTex continues to grow and reshape the future of sustainable materials – well done Lucy! #JamesDysonAward #Innovation #Sustainability
🤔 What if there was a seafood waste alternative to single use plastic film? 🤔 Founder and COO of MarinaTex, Lucy Hughes is a founder who is developing exactly that. She’s producing novel films and coatings made from seafood waste and algae, designed as planet-conscious alternatives to single use plastic films and coatings. Lucy has been with Plus X Innovation since 2019 after winning a membership at the Plus X Disruptors competition. MarinaTex was her undergrad project, and she thought she wouldn’t be doing it for much longer. But then it won the National and International James Dyson Award which added rocket fuel to the project 🚀 Since then they’ve been developing the product, growing the team, and raising money, to get to TRL five (which is technology readiness level five - being manufactured in an industrial setting). Watching MarinaTex develop their innovative product over the last 5 years, using our workshop, thriving in our innovation programmes, and excelling beyond, has been nothing short of incredible. We can’t wait to see what’s next in store for Lucy and MarinaTex 🎉
