Hogmanay, the Scots word for the final day of the year, is a time to enjoy the company of friends and family, holding fast together in the dark Scottish mid-winter whilst reflecting on the old year and looking forward to the new. Our hometown in Elgin is an important part of the history of Hogmanay, with the first written record of the word in Scots coming from the local archives. So, it is apt that it is also the birth date of our founder, Alexander Johnston, an entrepreneur of the industrial revolution, who founded the mill that is still at the heart of our company today. This year marks the 250th anniversary of his birth. We're reviving the old-found ritual of gifting loved ones with coal or wood for warmth by crafting a covetable Hogmanay Blanket to coorie (Scots for snuggle) under with loved ones. A modern interpretation of a classic archive check, the design boasts a fresh colourway of grey, red and gold to symbolise charcoal, fire and whisky. Enjoy the embrace of our luxury wool blanket and cheer in the new year with a dram – Slàinte! Discover more: https://bit.ly/3P3KJNy

About us
Johnstons of Elgin has over two hundred years of tradition and experience in textile manufacturing. Since 1797 the company has produced the finest woven products from the finest of fibres. The original mill, on the banks of the river Lossie in the historic town of Elgin, remains the headquarters of our renowned brand. From luxurious cashmere scarves and throws, to historic Estate tweed, the experience and craftsmanship rooted in our history has been passed down the generations. Visitors to the mill see experienced craftsmen and women, producing luxury pieces using traditional methods. Our knitwear mill in Hawick, in the Borders, sits in the heart of the Scottish knitting industry. An important part of the local community for over thirty years, the long history of knitwear production in this part of Scotland, ensures our knitted garments are made with the utmost skill and expertise. A unique family business with tradition and heritage at its core, Johnstons of Elgin will continue to push the boundaries of textile and knitwear manufacturing, while always remaining true to its history. Our cashmere scarves are manufactured by Johnstons of Elgin, a Scottish mill which we have partnered with since 1900. In a process that involves over 30 different steps, the cashmere is woven on traditional looms, washed in local spring water, and carefully brushed to create its soft, lustrous feel. Each stage is completed by dedicated craftspeople using expertise passed down through generations, with many processes still completed by hand. For over 150 years, Burberry has held craftsmanship and artisanal excellence at its core. In the latest instalment of our ‘Made in UK series’, we are celebrating one of our most iconic products and enduring house codes - the Burberry Check cashmere scarf. Our founder, Thomas Burberry, was passionate about local craftmanship and appreciated British fabrics of the highest quality. In 1900, he began working with Johnstons of Elgin, a family-run business founded in 1797 in Elgin, Scotland. Since then, we have partnered with Johnstons to create our iconic scarves. Carly Eck, Brand Curator at Burberry, commented, ‘British fashion has an enduring relationship with craft, with myriad and often idiosyncratic forms existing across the British Isles today. Burberry’s long partnership with Johnstons continues Thomas Burberry’s legacy and preserves these crafts, keeping alive centuries-old Scottish traditions.’ Discover more about the Burberry Check scarf and our ‘Made in the UK’ series here: https://lnkd.in/e2Hus3VB

Our AW24 collection, Soft in the Wild, captures the nuances of the Scottish landscape as we showcase our new season designs in Gairloch, located in the North-West Highlands. Shade inspiration comes from the foliage and flora of the wild moorlands, mountains, and hillsides in the coldest months of the year, translated through varying fabric structures and weights.
