About us

Our Mission is to be the definitive community-powered brand that builds decorating confidence by inspiring and supporting all decorators with their projects. Lick is a community-powered decorating movement. We are a force for change in the home decor space with a vision to transform the industry for our decorators and for the planet. Lick was founded in 2019 by Lucas London and Sam Bradley - both experienced startup entrepreneurs. The business has raised over $29m since inception. OMERS Ventures lead our Series A round in June 2021 with participation from existing investors Felix Capital and contributions from entrepreneurs and PE investors including Magnus Rausing, Alex Chesterman and Kathaka, the family office of Caroline Rupert of Richemont. We’re a business that believes in building confidence in our decorators. Seeing their bright ideas and making them happen. We do this by giving our do-er uppers access to inspiration, advice and how-to guidance from our experts and wider community. As well as making our range of (water-based, low VOC) paint, (FSC-certified) wallpaper, blinds and supplies with real people and real homes in mind. It's why we curate the colours in our product ranges, it's why we have an expert team of colour consultants on-hand to help with any decorating question, big or small, it's why we're building a supportive community of decorators to inspire each other with their projects, and it’s why we are rethinking how technology can transform this category. We're on a mission to transform the $1trillon global home decor category, and our sights are set on scale, this means expanding our product offering, launching new sustainability initiatives, and growing our already thriving community of home decorators across the globe. Decorator success starts at home...our home. That is why our ambition is to be a definitive people-powered company. Ultimately, so that we can benefit both people and planet. What better way to celebrate than painting the B Corp logo in our office with leftover paint to remind us, and our amazing team, every day of how much we’ve achieved and the work that has gone into this milestone moment.     Building a business is a unique and challenging journey and we tend to focus on the problems and look ahead vs celebrate the positive moments and what has been achieved. This week I was invited on behalf of Lick to Number 10 to meet the Prime Minister to recognise the contributions that small businesses have made to the UK economy. This was a very proud moment to see Lick get recognised and a moment to reflect on what the team has achieved in the last 5 years. We have grown revenue and gross margin every year since we launched in 2020 and expect to finish 2024 with over 100% increase in units vs prior year.  We have created 3 unique brands, Lick, LickPro and LickTools. You can now buy these products in over 2,000 retail stores in the UK. We are B Corp, FSC Certified and recently won the Marie Clare Sustainability Award and our products are now Trace VOC. We have supported charities including One Tree Planted (9.1k trees planted), charity water (14 million litres donated), 4Ocean (4.4k plastic removed from the ocean) and many small local charities. We have an incredibly talented and passionate team of 40 people working across marketing, tech and ops and a very supportive investor base. Our goal as a brand is to inspire and support people to transform their houses to the homes they want - and we are very proud of the impact we have made!     Chippy dinner in Ketchup Corner? 🍅 Poppies Fish & Chip shop has just created an ‘ode to Heinz ketchup’ in its new Portobello Road shop, using Red HTK 57, our rich, earthy red, created in collaboration with Kraft Heinz. Genius. “Ketchup is one of the ultimate British condiments, and we love it on our chips, so when opening our newest restaurant, we knew it had to have its own special feature.     Painting the town(house) r̶e̶d̶ Beige 09… When we saw Maruta Velša's call for brands to get involved with By Rotation’s top-secret IRL experience, we knew we could help add some colour. Luckily, our LickPro ambassador Ben Russell was on hand to give the place a professional makeover just in time, adding Beige 09 to the welcome space, plus an extra special Red 03 accent in the changing rooms - the perfect backdrops for finding your next OOTD. Fast-forward two weeks, and ‘The House of ByRo’ has opened its doors to celebrate 5 years of the world’s shared wardrobe.     Heading into this week on a high after showcasing Lick at our first Decorex International, Europe’s leading Interior Design event at Kensington Olympia. From Sunday to Wednesday last week, we met with and presented our Lick Design Programme to over 600 Interior Designers, interior design students, architects and property developers who came onto our stand and spoke to the brilliant team about all things Lick for their personal and client projects. We’re very pleased to say the response was overwhelmingly positive, not just for the Lick Design Programme but for our range of colours, Peel & Stick samples, commitment to sustainability and product availability for professional tradespeople through us stocking LickPro, our professional decorating range, at Screwfix. A big thanks to the whole team who have been involved from design to deconstruction of the stand and everything in between, but particularly Matilda Martin, Tash Bradley and Charles Dion-Dean for being the faces of Lick at the event, over a very busy 4 days. We’re excited to be talking up-and-coming projects with many of those we met this week, and with a big Lick Design Programme launch imminent, watch this space!

    It has been an exciting and busy few weeks at Lick for the team.. 1. We have had a brand campaign live in and around London & Manchester focused on our key quality USPs; excellent coverage, unique pigment-rich colours and durable paint. We are incredibly proud of the creative execution, deliberately keeping it simple to suit the channel mix. Attention-grabbing headlines, strong colours, a large Lick logo and key assets to get our message across impactfully. We have been working with Stella Sorrentino at JCDecaux on the ATL media. We still believe outdoor at high frequency in high traffic areas is a great way to support building long term awareness. 2. The team have been at Screwfix Live presenting our trade range LickPro and sustainable tool range LickTools, which are both available in Screwfix. We also had mixing machines at the event mixing paint for customers live. The event really is amazing with over 40,000 passionate attendees and the response has been fantastic. 3. We are currently at Decorex International presenting The Lick Design Programme. We have already met with over 500 interior designers, architects and property developers and again have been excited with the overwhelmingly positive response to our design offering. We are now heading into the busiest time of the year and are already breaking records 🚀
