Founder & Director @ Defankle Innovation | Innovation consultancy

Angela’s journey to become a world-leading medical device innovator and company owner is not typical. 👯 Angela's career started as a ballerina where, as well as discipline, she learned to observe movement in a unique way. 😓 Fast forward a few years and, in a role as a medical device sales rep, she observed surgeons struggling. 💡 The physical awkwardness of access, the need to easily hold back layers, and the clunky and poorly designed tool used at the time prompted her to think she could do better. 💪🏻 So she did. 😎 She developed 3D printed prototypes, tested the idea, got to market and, over the years, has launched a whole product range focused on making surgery easier and reducing recovery times whilst iteratively improving to reduce environmental impacts. 🏅 Angela has received multiple awards including the Queens Award for Enterprise and CEO of the year 2021. She is buzzing with enthusiasm and her sense of purpose is palpable. She is a champion of inclusive innovation and better surgical practice.

  • 🌍 Making a Difference, One Galaxy II Retractor at a Time 🌟 Over the past decade, JUNE Medical has been on a mission to transform global healthcare by donating our innovative Galaxy II retractors to underserved regions. These surgical tools have been critical in providing high-quality care in areas where access to advanced medical equipment is limited. One area of focus has been obstetric fistula repairs—a condition affecting millions of women in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. Thanks to the Galaxy II retractor, surgeons can perform life-changing procedures with greater precision, restoring dignity and health to countless women. 💙 We’ve worked with incredible professionals like Consultant Urologist Tariq Tassadaq in Malawi and partnered with organizations in Ukraine and Uganda to ensure these tools reach those who need them most. This is all part of our promise: 10% of every Galaxy II retractor sale goes to charity. Our founder, Angela Spang, sums it up beautifully: "I started JUNE Medical to make a difference. These donations are a reflection of our commitment to leaving a positive impact on the world." A heartfelt thank-you to all the partners, surgeons, and organizations who have joined us on this journey. Together, we’re creating brighter futures and healthier communities. 🙌 If you're passionate about improving global healthcare or want to partner with us, let’s connect! #HealthcareForAll #MedicalDonations #SocialImpact #JUNEMedical #GalaxyII #GlobalHealth

Last night Circle Health Group were honoured to be presented with the prestigious Order of St Panteleimon Award by His Eminence Bishop Kenneth Nowakowski, the Eparchial Bishop of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of the Holy Family in London.   The event took place at UCL and brought together organisation’s such as the British Red Cross and Ukrainian Medical Charity that worked alongside our teams and hospitals to provide desperately needed medical aid to Ukraine.   St Panteleimon is the patron saint of physicians and midwives and the award is recognised as the highest honour for Ukrainian medical professionals. This is the first time that a British organisation has been a recipient of the award.   In attendance to receive the medal, were Paolo Pieri, Dr Massoud Fouladi and members of our procurement team who worked tirelessly to collect, organise and load hundreds of pallets to six teaching hospitals in Ukraine.   Our work to support the medical community in Ukraine would not have been possible without the support and generosity of our suppliers. Also in attendance were representatives from Toffeln and JUNE MEDICAL who were key partners throughout.   Paolo Pieri, CEO of Circle Health Group, said:   “It is an honour for Circle Health Group to receive this national award for our work to support vulnerable patients and hospitals. My thanks to the Order of St Panteleimon, our hospital, procurement team, Dr Massoud Fouladi and our suppliers for their support getting emergency aid to where it was needed most.”   CC: Angela Spang, Harry Turner & Oksana Lovochkina. The certificate has ornate red borders and gold background.   Image 4: a presentation screen displays the title "Award for professionalism and mercy" and "Order of Saint Panteleimon" with the subtitle "Honor of medical profession!" Exciting times for JUNE MEDICAL! ✈️ I recently traveled to the USA for a meeting with a potential expansion partner, and I’m thrilled to share that we have BIG plans ahead for the US market. 🇺🇸 The best part? We've already DOUBLED our market share from last year, and the momentum is only building. 🚀 At June Medical, we’re on a mission to bring safer patient care to the world, and with every milestone we hit, we’re one step closer to making healthcare better for everyone. Grateful for the incredible team and partners who are helping to make this growth possible. The journey ahead looks incredibly promising! Let’s keep pushing boundaries. 💙

  • Let's celebrate self-care week! How do you practise self-care? Self-care can come in many forms. For some, it’s taking small moments of rest and relaxation when we can get them in a busy life. For others, it can look like investing in baseline wellbeing, making sure we get enough rest, exercise and social interaction to feel energised. One of the purest forms of self-care, however, is the commitments we make to ourselves to pursue our goals and work towards the life we want for ourselves. Discipline can be difficult to cultivate but with it, we can achieve more than we thought possible - in the gym, in our careers, in our relationships.

  • Following a lively debate yesterday, we must do our DUTY and settle the score......No no no....we are NOT TALKING US POLITICS (that would be crazy). We are talking about if the 8-shape of retractor was designed and needs to be used only for men.... or not. What do YOU think?!

Happy Surgical Halloween! 🎃👻 I hope your day is filled with treats (and not tricks!). Speaking of treats, here's a little piece of medical history that might surprise you... Ever wondered why chainsaws were invented? 🤔 It wasn't for cutting wood…. The first chainsaw was originally invented to aid in childbirth! While it sounds gruesome (and it was!), in the 18th and 19th centuries, doctors needed a way to deal with obstructed labor, and a chainsaw-like tool, known as a symphysiotomy, was developed to help widen the birth canal. Thankfully, with advancements like C-sections and improved hygiene, this method became obsolete. 😅 At JUNE MEDICAL, we're dedicated to providing modern and compassionate healthcare solutions. We might not use chainsaws, but we're always striving to deliver the best possible care to our patients. 😉

DID YOU KNOW? In ancient times deer horn were used for retractors, luckily we have come further nowadays! (The broad term retractor typically describes a simple steel tool possessing a curved, hooked, or angled blade, which is manually held or self-retaining, to help maintain a desired position of tissue during surgery.) In 2021, a self-retaining ring retractor in the UK was given HRH The Queen's Award for Enterprise in the Innovation category as the first and only retractor ever to be awarded. https://lnkd.in/gBKVd3gV) #handsurgery #orthopedicsurgery #orthopaedicsurgery #surgery #galaxyretractor #handmeretractor
