Jupitar Artland’s Director Nicky Wilson and artist Anya Gallaccio spoke to key members of the press yesterday morning at the official launch of STROKE, by the Paisley- born artist. Presented by JUPITER+, Jupiter Artland’s nation-wide art and learning programme, STROKE, takes over an unoccupied shop space at 18 High Street with the iconic installation featuring walls coated with layers of decadent chocolate, engaging the senses. This restaging of work is a prolific example of Gallaccio’s extraordinary use of materials. The project coincides with the artist having a major retrospective and a further prestigious commission across the UK also in the coming year. The work will be exhibited in Paisley from 7 September to 31 December. STROKE is part funded by Future Paisley, a cultural regeneration partnership programme, led by Renfrewshire Council, which uses the power of arts, heritage and culture to impact social and economic change. STROKE is open for public view Monday – Saturday weekly and is accompanied by a Creative Learning Suite positioned opposite the artwork in a former retail until in The Paisley Centre. The JUPITER+ studio will offer Paisley based school and college students the opportunity to create, express and collaborate with mentorship and guidance from Jupiter Artland’s learning team.
