Did you know the UK throws away around 9.5 million tonnes of food waste each year? This was the first stat that Anna Wood told me when before we started working together, and it was one of the main reasons I decided to help take action! One powerful way we cut food waste at JUX Food without compromising on quality, taste, or nutrition is through freeze-drying our ingredients. Since November 2023, we've extended the shelf life of over 40 tonnes of fresh food to two years with our freeze-drying process, ensuring that great food doesn't go to waste. Garlic is trendy. According to a report in the Daily Mail... "Sales of vegetable soar 70% at Waitrose & Partners with people taking to TikTok to claim it 'clears your skin' and describe themselves as 'garlic girlies'." According to the article, Waitrose & Partners, the only British supermarket to sell frozen wild garlic, "has seen soaring demand with sales up by 70 per cent in the past 30 days". Waitrose were the main beneficiaries of this trend-spike. They offer a fantastic range of quality and ready-to-eat ingredients options for consumers. This has sent #GenZ in droves as they seek to follow the latest food trend. And Garlic isn't the only ingredient that Gen-Z has taken an interest in, causing a surge in sales. Daniela H. has been keeping George Wills and I at team JUX Food up to date with all the latest food trends. We love seeing the different healthy-eating trends cut through on social media, and it's been a great way for us to meet new customers as they seek ready-to-eat quality ingredients. Fun fact: this is how we got our name!
I sometimes get asked: "where does the name JUX come from?" The answer isn't particularly exciting - just quite nerdy. 🤓 I wanted the name to be a one-word, quirky and memorable name: something I think Wild, TRIP and Lick have achieved very well. When developing the concept of JUX, I found an intriguing piece of McKinsey & Company research that found the modern consumer was juxtaposed: they wanted the immediacy and convenience of 'fast food', as well as the sustainability and health benefits of 'slow food'. This is the exact solution that JUX Food provides consumers. I can also see this juxtaposition reflected within the business. One of our points of difference - our dehydration technology - is technical and complicated. Yet it creates a completely pure, 100% natural product. As I said - not a particularly exciting answer. But I think 'JUX' perfectly captures what we're all about! #startup #consumer #entrepreneurship
