We're delighted to welcome Julia as a new pupil to KCH Garden Square Chambers in January. 'My name is Julia Freytag, and I am delighted to start pupillage with KCH Garden Square in January. Called to the Bar in 2019, I initially studied politics at UCL and have worked in Parliament and the Foreign Office. After converting to law, I volunteered for the National Centre for Domestic Violence, and I worked for the Cambridge Centre for Applied Research in Human Trafficking. I wrote my master’s thesis on modern slavery and human trafficking and the shortcomings of the Modern Slavery Act 2015; I have also helped draft expert reports pertaining to section 45 defences. I was previously a Trustee of the Cambridge Rape Crisis Centre and President of the Cambridge University Graduate Law Society. Additionally, I worked as a legal researcher whilst studying in the Netherlands. I co-authored the “Leiden Guidelines” on Digitally Derived Evidence for practitioners appearing before international courts and tribunals and in 2023, I was a Visiting Professional in Chambers at the International Criminal Court.
