Keeping active is so important for people living with kidney disease, as it can slow down its progression and help with symptoms such as fatigue. Doing a bit more exercise is often part of people’s New Year’s Resolutions, but many struggle to know where to start. That’s why we created our Getting Started: Beginner’s Programme, delivered by renal physiotherapist Jules. In this series, patients can gradually work their way through 8 beginner-level activity video classes, which are specially designed for people with kidney disease. The programme is aimed at improving: 💪 Muscle strength 🎯 Coordination 👩🏾🤝👨🏿 Posture Patients can take each class at their own pace, in the privacy of their own home, and repeat them as much as needed. If you know of a person with kidney disease who could benefit, here’s the link: https://lnkd.in/eaT3iUQq

Sending a big congratulations to Sandra Currie OBE - very well deserved!
We are incredibly thrilled to share that our chief executive, Sandra Currie, is named as the recipient of an OBE in recognition of Services to People Affected by Kidney Disease, as announced in the King’s 2025 New Year Honours list. For the past 12 years as CEO, Sandra has been a devoted advocate for people living with kidney disease and has overseen significant growth in the charity’s activities and research funding. “Today, as I’m taking in the honour of being recognised in this way, around 22 people in the UK will start their year needing ongoing treatment because their kidneys have failed, and there will be another 22 each day throughout 2025. “My strength in this role comes entirely from the people who share their lives with me. Everyone who has told me of the devastation kidney disease has brought to them and their families, every researcher who has shared their passion and innovation as they search for answers to end kidney disease, and everyone who supports and funds our work from all corners of the UK. “They remind me daily of the great need for our work and keep me focused on the urgency for the charity to do more. We are one great team of people who work and volunteer for the charity, I am completely honoured to have been nominated and to be receiving this recognition for what we have achieved together.” On behalf of colleagues and supporters, congratulations Sandra Currie OBE! 🎉 Read more here: https://bit.ly/40j3qn6 [Image description: Sandra is smiling for a photograph at a gala event. It's been a busy week, with several members of the usually-remote Kidney Beam team relishing a rare chance to meet up, and also get out and about spreading the word! Melchiorre Bennardo, Professor Sharlene Greenwood, Christy Walklin, and our new health coaches Linda and Herolin got together in London to help fine tune our operations, while Katie Bell and Jamie Starr put their heads together on planning new developments for the platform in 2025. Plus Katie Bell was welcomed onto the Inside Health Innovation podcast with fellow female founder Karina Malhotra from Acumentice l B Corp Certified, chatting about entrepreneurship, innovation and the NHS's need to prioritise their adoption of digital health. Full episode out in Jan. We've also had several promising conversations with friends and colleagues from renal networks around the country, discussing how we can increase access to our virtual kidney rehabilitation programmes for all people with kidney disease across the UK. Stay tuned for lots more exciting developments to come in 2025 and beyond!

Following dialysis and transplant surgery, our member N.James was anxious about starting any physical activity again for fear of injuring their new kidney. After taking part in a specially-designed post-transplant programme of online classes, they were able to get moving again - as well as learn about topics such as managing food cravings, overcoming setbacks and keeping on track. Hats off to Playfair for another outstanding Female Founder Office Hours today. Can't imagine it's easy to pull off an event like that. I had 4 short but meaningful conversations with investors, each of which a useful stepping stone towards our goal at Kidney Beam of providing equitable access to exercise and lifestyle management resources tailored for people living with kidney disease. Thanks Chris Smith and the whole Playfair team behind this and to Natalie Otwoma of Conduit Connect, Freya Wordsworth of Ascension, Justin Seghers of Pact and Alexandra Brown of 24Haymarket for your time today. #femalefounders #officehours #startups #investors #womenintech #healthtech #seedinvestment #impactinvestment
