🌿 Well-being Garden for staff opens at LRI 🌿 On Monday 2 September, we were pleased to officially open the Mackay Wellbeing Garden at Leicester Royal Infirmary, which was made possible by a generous gift from local philanthropist and owner of Kilworth House Hotel and Theatre, Richard Mackay. 🌸 Located in the heart of the city, this new garden offers a much-needed space for rest for the dedicated staff working in the Emergency Department (ED). Richard Mackay, through his charitable trust, has been a long-standing supporter of Leicester’s Hospitals. He was inspired to create this serene space after listening to staff about the positive impact it could have on their well-being. Richard shared: “In 2022 I approached Leicester Hospitals Charity to see how I could support staff at Leicester’s Hospitals. I listened to the staff and their ideas about the benefits of a garden like this on their well-being and I was immediately hooked and determined to make this possible. “I hope the open area oasis among the mass buildings will benefit the ED staff by allowing them to take a moment under the stars or a blue sky during busy and difficult shifts. If this space helps someone a little bit, it is doing what I hoped it would. The staff deserve this well-being garden and I’m proud to have helped make this happen.” Julie Burdett, Deputy Head of Nursing in the ED, emphasised the importance of the garden: "Emergency staff wanted somewhere safe to gather their thoughts during busy shifts. This beautiful outdoor space allows them to recharge and return to work more relaxed, which ultimately benefits patient care." 🌺 We are deeply grateful for Richard Mackay’s kindness and commitment to our healthcare workers. Craig has joined the hotel after spending the past nine and a half years with Eden Hotel Collection, where he started as house manager at Brockencote Hall, before holding GM positions at The Kings Hotel, Brockencote Hall and The Greenway Hotel & Spa. On his new appointment, Craig says “I am delighted to have joined the fantastic team here at Kilworth in its 21st anniversary year.
