Why do so many M&As fail to deliver long-term value? Because #culture is treated as an afterthought. 95% of executives say cultural fit is critical in M&A, yet a staggering 25% cite a lack of cultural cohesion as the primary reason for failure. And the numbers don’t lie—45% of employees leave within a year of a transaction, and 75% within three years. At our recent Women in M&A event—hosted by Kin&Co in partnership with March Women - Women in M&A—we tackled this head-on. Our panel of leaders, including Camilla Barlocco, MA, Karen Thomas-Bland, Becky Hewitt OBE and Emma Woodhead White, unpacked the human side of M&A—because deals don’t succeed on spreadsheets alone. If you’re a business leader navigating M&A, this is a must-read. Our latest piece dives deeper into the practical strategies you need to get this right. A huge thank you to our brilliant panellists and to everyone who joined the conversation. Let’s put people and culture where they belong—at the heart of M&A success.

Tomorrow morning we will be hosted by Kin&Co for a panel discussion where industry leaders and transformation experts unpack why organisational culture often plays a pivotal but overlooked role in M&A success. Our panellists will cover practical strategies with real-world insights into tackling the cultural and leadership challenges that frequently jeopardise value creation. Camilla Barlocco, MA is a Non-Executive Director and a brand, marketing, and communication leader with deep expertise in shaping corporate narratives and driving culture-led transformation. Working at the intersection of brand identity, company culture, and communication, she specialises in integrating brand strategy with cultural aspirations. Camilla has led brand and culture integration in some of the largest M&As in renewable energy across the EU. Becky Hewitt OBE  is Kin&Co's multi-award-winning CEO. She has spent her career campaigning for equality and social change, leading organisational transformation and building high-performing, values-led cultures in the commercial and voluntary sectors. She is Chair of the ACEVO and NCVO taskforce on the future of Flexible Working, an advisor to the Armstrong Woolfe WCOOC initiative (Women in the COO Community), has received the Allbright BrightList award for Philanthropy, was recognised as a Charity Times ‘Pandemic Pioneer’ and a CharityComms 'Inspiring Communicator', and has an OBE for her services to people with visible differences. March member Karen Thomas-Bland is an Interim Executive and Chair of PE-backed businesses with 27 years' experience leading and advising on M&A integrations and has completed circa 50 to date. She is currently leading an integration of two large PE-backed businesses and is working through an Exit with a PE-backed professional services firm in one of her Chair roles. Emma Woodhead White is Director of Consulting at Kin&Co and a passionate thought leader on the importance of purpose-led cultures and human-centred leadership.  She has spent her career partnering with leaders of global organisations to unlock the performance and motivation of their teams in moments of significant business change including M&A, brand transformation, and changes in leadership and strategic direction. Emma is a regular industry speaker on purpose and culture, a qualified Change Management Practitioner and a mentor for young talent.

  • When SKF set out to define its purpose, they faced a challenge—how do you unite a global workforce across cultures, teams, and acquisitions? Without alignment, silos would deepen, engagement would drop, and strategy would fail. Instead of dictating from the top, they trained "purpose ambassadors" to gather insights, giving employees a voice in shaping the company’s future. The result? Stronger alignment, a strategy people believe in, and a smoother rollout. Want to know how they did it? • Your Values Aren’t the Problem. It’s How You’re Embedding Them. You’ve got company values in place—but are they driving real change? Too often, values remain corporate wallpaper—nice words that don’t translate into action. The problem isn’t the values themselves. It’s how they take root. Here’s the missing piece: culture isn’t built by leadership alone. It’s your first followers—those early adopters—who determine whether values stick or fade into irrelevance. In our latest article, we break down Derek Sivers’ ‘First Follower’ concept and show how the right people can turn values into movements. Learn how to identify and empower these cultural champions, why leadership needs to shift its role, and what it takes to create a culture that sustains itself. If your #values aren’t shaping behaviour, this is the insight you need. Read the full piece now.

  • #Mergers and acquisitions are high-stakes moves. You’ve crunched the numbers, aligned the strategy, and mapped out the synergies. But here’s the reality—without a strong cultural foundation, even the best deals can unravel. On Wednesday, 26th February 2025, from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Sustainable Ventures, London, we’re bringing together Karen Thomas-Bland, Camilla Barlocco, and Emma Woodhead White to explore what business leaders must get right in an M&A: leadership alignment, managing resistance, and keeping people engaged. Because numbers don’t drive success—your people do. If you’re leading transformation or preparing for a deal, this discussion will give you the insights to turn culture from a risk into an advantage. • Service-based businesses are losing customers—not because of their product, but because of their culture. Customers today expect more than great service—they want human connection. And when employees don’t feel empowered or engaged, that connection breaks. The result? Higher churn, disengaged teams, and lost revenue. The best-performing businesses are getting ahead by prioritising culture as a competitive advantage. That’s exactly what our new white paper, “Serving Up Connection: How To Build A People-Centric Service Culture,” is all about. Inside, you’ll get: - The data-backed case for why connection drives loyalty, retention, and revenue. - Proven strategies to build a resilient, people-first service culture that actually works. - Real-world case studies of organisations turning culture into a business growth driver. The bottom line? Companies that invest in connection don’t just survive—they dominate. The rest get left behind. Don’t wait for disengagement to cost your business. People experience leader with a specialism in purpose, culture & behaviour change

After 7 years, today marks my last one as part of the Kin&Co team. 😬 😯 It’s a bittersweet moment. I joined as employee number 7 when we worked out of a basement in Shoreditch, and leave having helped some of the world’s best-known organisations shape and embed purpose-led cultures that have transformed how people experience work and the impact they have on others. 💪 👊 📈 It’s been an amazing rollercoaster, characterised throughout by some brilliant, playful, caring and incredibly talented and purpose-driven people, committed to making the world a better place. I’ll certainly miss working with them, but can’t wait to see what the next chapter for Kin&Co looks like! As for what’s next for me, I’m very excited to explore the world beyond consulting (and to be working a little closer to home in Bristol). In two weeks, I’ll be joining Somerset Bridge Group - one of the UK’s top 10 motor insurers - to lead all things People Experience, helping them build on an already strong culture and performance and take it from good to great! Watch this space… 🤘
