Today Science & Engineering Health Technologies Alliance (SEHTA) had the privilege of delivering an in-person workshop alongside KiTEC (King's Technology Evaluation Centre) on "Health Technology Assessment”, which took place at the London Institute for Healthcare Engineering (LIHE). We examined the context of Health Technology Assessment and Early Value Assessments in the commissioning and use of digital tools globally and the specific requirements used by NICE for the adoption of technologies within the NHS, which was followed by an Expert Panel Session at the end of the day. Kheiron Medical, one of the pioneers in AI for breast cancer detection, was just acquired by RadNet and DeepHealth for 1 million USD. Yes, you read that right. 👇 For a company with CE-marked software already deployed in Europe and UK, great clinical validation and publications in top-tier medical journals, this price feels surprisingly low. Sure, competition is tough, adoption cycles are long, and maybe Kheiron was struggling financially. But this also highlights something bigger: in healthcare AI, it’s not just about having the best technology or clinical proof. You need a strong commercial organization, a solid sales strategy, and flawless execution to make it all work. Timing matters, too. Being too early with an idea that decision-makers or workflows aren’t ready for can feel like failure. Even with great tech and evidence, success isn’t guaranteed—especially if the market isn’t ready or if the business side isn’t well-executed. Another hypothesis is that the deal includes hidden terms, such as Kheiron receiving stocks in RadNet or performance-based earnouts, which could potentially increase the value over time.
