Koalaa | Upper Limb Prosthetics

Project Limitless was launched in October 2020 to help children and young people living in the UK with below elbow limb differences, who may otherwise have difficulty accessing prosthetics. Hundreds of children have received a fully funded Koalaa prosthetic through the initiative to date, empowering them to live life to the full, and inspiring them to pursue their passions and interests. From aiding inclusion and independence to supporting play, fun and exploration, and everything else a growing child may wish to do. As our Koalaa prosthetics are super light, made from fabric (so comfy to wear) and washable, they are perfect for even very young children, while opening up a world of possibilities. #prosthetics #limbdifference #limbloss #assistivetech

This year, the Koalaa team has been fortunate to attend events all around the world! From ISPO in Jordan and OT World in Leipzig, to Camp No Limits across the US, and LimbBo Day here in the UK, we’ve loved meeting so many incredible people. These events have been a fantastic opportunity to connect with users, clinicians, NGOs, and partners, sharing stories and building meaningful connections. A new bike or scooter is top of the Christmas list for many children, and with our Sarah Tool, going for a ride can be child’s play!🚲 The Sarah Tool latches on to handlebars securely, while also allowing for a quick release when needed. (It’s also helpful for loads of other activities too, such as go karting, and pushing buggies and shopping trollies). We are so privileged to work with such amazing clinicians, prosthetists and orthopaedic practitioners. Not just here in the UK, where our journey began, but within countries across the world. This includes working with teams who support people within conflict settings and lower-middle-income countries. Meeting with clinical teams to demonstrate what Koalaa is all about and providing training on how to fit our sleeves (which can be done in just minutes!) is always an absolute pleasure. Working with our users to create the prosthetics and tools they really want, has always been at the heart of Koalaa. And for our design team, 2024 has been another busy year, full of listening, innovating, developing, testing and prototyping. We were thrilled to officially launch our fantastic new tool - The Sarah Pro - which is now supporting cyclists of all ability levels to take their rides up a gear. But we also started development of not one, but TWO, other new tools, that are set to make their debut in 2025! Post day is always a highlight for our workshop team.... ....and they’ve certainly been busy! In the last week alone, our prosthetics have gone out to: 📌UK users in Middlesborough, Leeds, Southampton, Hereford, Essex and Glasgow 📌US users in New Jersey, Texas, Maryland and Louisiana 📌 Plus, a special delivery has headed off to Welllington in New Zealand and another to Norrtälje in Sweden 📌And we have a large order soon to be heading off to Pakistan!
