📢 Korea Future | 한미래 Releases Critical Paper on Forced Repatriation 📢 Forced #repatriation of #North #Korean citizens remains a grave human rights concern in 2024, including for women who represent some 70% of returnees. Korea Future's latest position paper uncovers the key interplays between: 👉 Arbitrary Detentions: Returnees face unlawful imprisonment for exercising fundamental freedoms 👉 Gender-Based Violence: Repatriated women endure specific abuse, including invasive searches and physical assault 👉 Systematic Repression: Detention is weaponized as a tool of control, violating international standards and thereby exposing detainees to further risks of harms Our paper outlines key #recommendations for the forthcoming HRC Resolution, aiming notably at urgently acting for measures to halt forced repatriation, protections for detainees, and accountability for perpetrators. Let’s continue to drive progressive #policy changes and demand survivor-centred and timely #justice interventions for the people of North Korea. 🔗 Read the full position paper https://lnkd.in/ehbfAHhQ

Through detailed submissions, targeted recommendations, and robust advocacy, we aimed to feed this important activity and reflect as accurately as possible the realities faced by victims and survivors so as to instigate meaningful #change. Our work continues as we closely follow the outcomes of this long-awaited process and keep #advocating for effective international action to ensure #accountability and #justice for #North #Koreans.

Thank you for amplifying our voices. Justice is not merely an ideal for me. It is an essential demand for survival. Justice is not only about remembering their suffering but ensuring that those responsible for inflicting it are held accountable. True change can only occur when those who have suffered human rights violations are at the center, and I hope this is remembered. I also want to express my gratitude to Korea Future | 한미래 for sharing our voices. Eunju Kim(김은주)
