2 weeks ago, we had the pleasure of hosting a Career Insight Day with Kraken at their offices in Manchester, where 19 curious girls explored the exciting world of careers in technology. Our mission was to inspire and educate them about the vast possibilities a career in tech can offer, raise their aspirations, and help them envision a future where they can thrive equally in tech roles. The girls engaged in a variety of activities: Low-carbon tech workshop: Practising their coding skills while discovering how Kraken is focused on creating a smart, sustainable energy system. Energy tariff awareness session: Stepping into the shoes of developers and project managers to design a new energy tariff to meet client needs. Marketing campaign design: Creating and pitching their ideas to Kraken colleagues. They also had the invaluable opportunity to network with inspiring Kraken role models, learning about their diverse career paths and roles. The impact: 🟠 100% of the girls now understand that there are different routes and pathways into careers in tech. 🟠95% of the girls shared that the day had changed their thoughts about what a person who works in technology is actually like in a positive way. 🟠Just under 70% of the students shared that the colleagues they met on the day had inspired them to think differently about their future job and would like to find out more about tech careers. 🟠Just under 60% of the girls would now like a career in tech. We love hearing quotes from the girls and teachers who attended the day. - “I really loved it and want to work here. Everyone is so funny and friendly.” - Student - “It was very fun and definitely changed my mind about tech.” - Student - “I loved it and I got to find out so many new things.” - Student - “I thought people in technology would just have to be smart but I can see they can be smart and funny as well…like normal people.” - Student - “This has been so inspirational!” - Teacher - “Students were so inspired by the work space and women they spoke to.” - Teacher A huge thank you to everyone who made this day possible and to the girls for their enthusiasm and creativity.
