'Mono-materials' help the circular economy because it makes the sorting process at the end-of-service easier. Instead of having to separate many materials, the recycler or dismantler has less materials to 'deal' with. Seats in the car industry are usually made of PU foam topped with PVC or Leather (generally speaking). This means that the materials are basically impossible to separate using conventional (industrial) methods. The result of this is that the majority of seat material is shredded and burnt for energy or landfilled. Now, Ethar A. has HDPE fibres. These could very easily be used to create a woven seat textile... Same time, we could use HDPE foam for the seat foam. Trade-offs in material performance of course. However, with development and testing, this could be a break-through. Cool opportunity for mono-materials.
