Boutique Hospitality Design | Helping Spa, Restaurant, Hotel and Creative Studio Owners Build Unique Guest Experiences

About us

Run by Christine Skaar, we help boutique hospitality owners turn their property into a dream experience that leaves their guests not wanting to go home. Having worked with exclusive spa and restaurant venues, fresh music ventures and luxury residential developments from brand concept development to curated growth across new locations we understand the need to think big -but to never underestimate the details. We are passionate about beautiful design, seamless client (and back of house) journeys and creating a positive brand experience. We design from the inside-out so together we'll dig deep into your operational needs, client touch-points and grand vision before we even set pen to paper. Together we'll lean into your uniqueness to ensure your fit-out budget goes into the areas where it has the most impact, not just adding extensions for the sake of it. We're not Interior Designers. We're not Architects. We're not a branding agency. We're KVIST. Working holistically together means engaging in a results-driven and inspiring design process that translates into materiality, lighting, sound and scentscaping. We'll delve deep into everything from door handles and sustainable linen to optimal car parking and room acoustics. Because the goal is to make the space so good that visitors can't imagine it another way. Let's have a conversation about elevating your brand in the real world. Did you know that not everyone who calls themselves an Architect, is one? Or that not everyone offering Architectural services is professionally qualified? The odd thing is that it is only the NAME "Architect" which is protected in the UK. But not very well it seems - because you are welcome to call yourself a... "Landscape Architect" "Architectural Designer" "IT Architect" "Interior Architect" "Architectural Consultant" "Architectural Assistant" And to boot - anyone can 'do' what a qualified Architect 'does', with different levels (or not) of training. It's a bit nuts really. Because a Professional Architectural qualification is around 7 years in total. This includes 3 + 2 years at university learning to design, detail and understand building structures, systems and environmental considerations (amongst other things!); and 2 years working in practice under an experienced Architect to learn how to work efficiently and safely, meet statutory obligations, give professionally sound advice and how to coordinate a team. Then, as if that isn't enough, at the end there is another year of study alongside working full-time, we have to sit some pretty hefty exams on legal building contracts and how to deal with things like contractors going bust... So, an Architect is more than someone who draws plans. 👷🏻 Having said all this - there are some fantastic designers out there who are not qualified Architects - and you may find they are perfectly capable to help you with your project. These include; ✅ BIID registered Interior Designers (for non-structural interiors) ✅ Engineering Council registered Engineers (for structural alterations) ✅ CIAT registered Architectural/Building Technologists (for technical but less design driven projects) If you decide not to use an Architect, please make sure that your designer is registered with one of the above to avoid problems later on. You'll get a different level of service and expertise from each professional to suit your needs and budget, but Professional regulation means they hold a qualification in their area of building design, that they uphold a minimum level of ongoing training. And also remember to check they are insured! UK Architects like me must be registered with the ✅ ARB (Architects Registration Board), and most of us are also members of the ✅ RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects). Before you engage any designer for building work, pop on to the websites of the professional bodies ticked above to find out where, and if, they are registered. ---------- I’m Christine, an Interior Designer and Qualified Architect, and founder of KVIST Interior Design. 👆 Follow Christine Skaar and KVIST Design 🔔 Tap the bell to see my new posts

  • Staging book cases and fitted joinery is a skill. Objects d’art and collectibles are essential accent pieces to add interest. This little sculpture is a perfect addition to a display case, coffee table, or bookcase, whether you are opting for a monochrome composition or something more eclectic. styling is all about composition. Ie the art of putting something together, or the combination of elements or qualities. With styling, the purpose of composition is to capture attention and establish visual balance so that everything feels engaging yet harmonious. Here are a few styling rules to go by: Visually, objects look more interesting when arranged asymmetrically and in groups of odd numbers. Do not place objects of similar shape, size, texture, and color too close together, as they will appear bulky.  Instead, evenly disperse or weave similar props to keep the eye interested and moving through the display. The Broccolo Romanesco sculpture is hand-made by artist Dot Young, inspired by nature's natural geometry. • This is the first dedicated podcast room I have ever been in! In 2021 I recorded a podcast episode from this space we designed at The Qube, London. It was a totally different experience from setting up to record on my laptop in a home setting; working around the unexpected beeps of the dishwasher finishing, the dog barking in the garden and the postman knocking mid-interview (all of which I’ve negotiated…!). It was also lovely to have a curated backdrop for the video element of the podcast, without scrambling to find a presentable wall in my house or office! @weareqube You can listen to the episode here > https://lnkd.in/eFwbHhWs

  • Yikes, this resonates. I was speaking to a colleague the other week and I mentioned I felt a bit like a dinghy strapped to a cruise ship, going in the right direction but bobbing along somewhat frantically jumping from one wave to another. Is that being an entrepreneur, a creative, a mum or just a personality trait? Likely a generous mix! KVIST boutique was one of my new challenges a couple of years ago - a passion project. I’ve always wanted a beautiful shop full of wholesome, beautiful things. Lockdown gave me the opportunity to create this online haven in a world gone mad. Every product comes from an independent UK maker - talented and passionate artisans who pour their heart and soul into everything they touch.  Sometimes it’s hard to keep up with myself, I’m pretty much always game for new challenges and willing to learn my way to anything. I do believe that I can flex time and space when necessary - at least to date it’s worked! It’s sometimes exhausting and a bit scary, but this is where I find reward. Some things I know I should steer clear of (like tuneful singing) but for everything else I have learned to surround myself with people who ensure that I can continue to experiment, learn and explore new challenges - without losing focus on the important things and protecting my energy to keep ‘playing’ with life. Do gift yourself a bit of time out to browse through the boutique, each item is the result of someone’s creativity and design iterations, and the collection as a whole is a result of mine! www.kvistboutique.co.uk . . . . #challengeyourself #pushyourlimits #overcome #growthmindset #keepgoing #believeinyourself #nevergiveup #motivation #determination #youcandoit #selfimprovement #positivity #inspiration #reachforthestars #keepmovingforward

  • Being flexible and available for my clients just at the crucial moment they are ready to move forward with a project can equate to weeks of saved time over the course of a project. Having working on many projects of my own over the years, I know how important this is from a clients perspective!
