With #Lancashire’s universities attending a MPs reception at the House of Commons yesterday to showcase our R&D capabilities and talent pipeline, the county’s #devolution deal progressing through parliament this week - which includes £20m of investment towards new tech-led projects in #Blackburn, #Blackpool and #Preston - our role at the heart of the North West Cyber Corridor recently showcased at Investor Ladder 👇, and Fraser House Hub + fhunded up for a Prolific North award tonight, it feels like the county’s #innovation economy is having a bit of a moment. Thanks to all the local authorities, businesses, connectors, influencers and partner organisations who are helping to take Lancashire forward (too many to tag here, but you know who you are). But this is just the beginning, and there’s a lot more to come. From grass root business support for startups to fully-formed spinout companies with a proprietary tech solution, #Lancashire’s universities contribute massively to the county’s innovation ecosystem. Their unique combination of academic expertise, R&D capabilities, and access to a dynamic talent pipeline, also means they can support a local company on a long term growth journey as well as short term interventions. Good to see University of Central Lancashire, Lancaster University and Edge Hill University all represented at this recent reception with #Lancashire MPs and Chorley’s Sir Lindsay Hoyle at the Houses of Parliament. 👇

To coincide with #LancashireDay, several of the county’s most successful businesses took part in a special Business Cloud magazine roundtable which was supported by our colleagues at Boost; Lancashire's Business Growth Hub. Some of the panellists – including James Cole and Derry Green - have previously worked with Boost, Boost Access to Finance and Rosebud Business Finance, and spoke about the support they’ve received. But one of the standout quotes for us came from Derry from The Secret Garden Glamping talking about how doing business in Lancashire was not just about making money: “Everyone at this table wants to do the same sort of thing. We’re focused on ethics, looking after our people and we don’t want to rip people off, which is a big selling point for Lancashire. It’s really important to focus on not being completely profit-driven, you want to know where and who your money is going to.” We couldn't agree more. Change of scene & a productive afternoon working remotely from Fraser House Hub - thank you Rachael Sterrett & Pam Pickles for having me over last minute & great to catch up with Hannah Bell (Allison). Such a great space for making connections - great to meet you Daniel Nicholson & Kathleen (Kay) P.! I’ve followed the progress of Fraser House Hub over the years as a proud Lancastrian, and applaud the incredible work of Dan Knowles, Rory Southworth and team in building Lancashire’s first digital hub into a space for technology businesses & start-ups to thrive. It’s also a really cool co-working space, and fab to see such a vibrant community. Lots of exciting work happening in Lancashire to support business innovation and regional economic growth, which is helping to put the Red Rose County on the map. Hats off also to the legendary Rory and the growing fhunded team, part of the Lancashire Innovation Strategy, for encouraging investment in Tech and Digital businesses across Lancashire (and for the consistently excellent LinkedIn posts and epo-system building!).
