Festive Friday ⛄ On Friday the Chamber Team were delighted to welcome members to our Christmas Business Lunch at The Mazuma Stadium. As well as working out "What Is Your Elf Name" and debating important Christmas trivia such as real tree vs. fake tree, guests heard from Head of Ops Graham White and Chamber President Christopher Gardner, who gave an over-view of the year as well as our Charity of the Year Chris Pilkington from Unique Kidz and Co. We were also thrilled to raise over £600 towards this worthy cause 🙌 Thank you to ICS Accounting, TP Financial Solutions, Pre-Law LLP, Waters and Atkinson Chartered Accountants, Rainbow Restoration UK, Whitworth Consulting, Morecambe Football Club for donating prizes to the raffle. Thank you to EDF for inviting me to the round table discussion with Lord Philip Hunt, Lizzi Collinge MP, Tarnia Elsworth and (many others) this morning on the economic contribution of the Heysham power stations to the Lancaster and Morecambe area. Lord Hunt is Minister for Energy Security and Net Zero. We heard yesterday that EDF have confirmed they will be extending the operational life of Heysham 1 until 2027 and Heysham 2 to 2030. This will help preserve a skilled workforce in our community as we look to the future of nuclear as part of the energy mix for the energy security, and in line with our national clean energy targets for 2030 and beyond. We will continue to benefit from sustained jobs, rates into our city council, direct and indirect investment into the supply chain for the near future as a result. But long term we need guidance and decisions from the government on nuclear generation (modular or otherwise) so the sector, supply chain and local business community have the confidence to invest and develop the economies of scale needed to bring the costs down, to benefit all of society. Your local Lancaster & Morecambe College , your local university (Lancaster University), and your Lancaster & Morecambe Chamber of Commerce all have a role to play in lobbying and supporting government so we can maximise the opportunity for the local supply chain and the jobs and talent pipeline. I’m proud to be involved and be an ambassador for all three of these fantastic local anchor institutions.
