Harley is a 9-year-old boy who loves visiting amusement parks, swimming, and enjoying ice cream with his carers. He is autistic and also lives with ADHD and learning difficulties. When we first met Harley, the initial assessment was thorough, with the team working closely with his mother to co-create a personalised care plan. Over time, Harley has built strong relationships with his carers, founded on trust and friendship. This progress has allowed him to enjoy a higher quality of life, communicate and participate in the activities he loves the most with great ease. Hear more of his story: https://lnkd.in/de7KaHpS

Meet Ashanti, a 16-year-old girl with lived experience of autism and learning difficulties.    While growing up, Ashanti was becoming easily anxious in crowded spaces or when there were many people around her.   "I met Bea and Yvan while I was on respite care, but back then, I wouldn't feel comfortable going to places like the park, restaurants, etc."   But now, Ashanti visits the places she loves, goes to school, for a walk, swimming, cooks her favourite dishes and plays on her iPad. She also went on a trip to Dubai with her mother and brother.   "I did not like the weather, but I really enjoyed the trip. Together with my brother, Bea and Yvan we went on the safari and I loved it!" This video gives you a glimpse into her everyday life, showing that, despite any challenge, with the right support, you can still make your own choices and live life the way you choose. https://lnkd.in/dTj_3tTj

This morning saw the first online NHS England meeting around Building Rewarding Lives in the Community. We are humbled to be part of this network, and every meeting sees valuable insights shared. Today, there were some excellent speakers, including Jon Glasby who led the below piece of research. This project gives us 10 action points on how to help: 1. Our lives are on hold - do your job and get some "Oomph" 2. See the person behind the labels. 3. Don't make me jump through more hoops than is really needed. 4. Make sure the criminal justice system is on board (where someone has committed an offence) 5. Help hospital staff know what's available in the community. 6. Don't put us into boxes and “scatter-gun". 7. Give me the chance to try life outside. 8. Please help me with the trauma I've experienced. 9. Don't let us fall through the cracks. 10. Don't set us up to fail. Please make the time to watch this video. And if you know someone who needs to come home, or if you need signposting, just drop me a line. Let's do this together.
