  • Low-Cost Zero-Emission trucking feasible business model It is all about business models and balanced ecosystems You may have heard that: -there is no silver bullet to stop GHG emissions.... -the uncertainty of what comes first?: The chicken or the egg... -that electric propulsion in trucks can only be delivered with Hydrogen... -that battery powered trucks is an expensive solution... -that there is no grid capacity to deploy EV charging infrastructure... ....then you might be inspired by a good case where all these myths meet. It is all about business models and balanced ecosystems "Off-Grid charging forecourt corridor with electric truck charging stations in South Africa shows Zero Carbon Charge founder Joubert Roux's practical application. Solar-Powered Trucks: A Game-Changer for Africa (The Autonomy Newsletter, 12/12/2024) "The South African grid is unable to support electric trucks, and anyway their electricity is heavily reliant on coal. Joubert's answer is to have solar farms at the charge station. He is buying a fleet of 200 Chinese trucks that use battery swapping, and building charge stations 200 kms apart along the route, each boasting 300MWh of battery storage, and each powered by a nearby solar farm. He chose to go with battery swap so that the logistics companies could lease the vehicles for less than an ICE equivalent, and it fitted his model of being the energy provider. As solar and battery prices continue to drop he will increase the size of his fleet. A model like this has great promise for Africa, where everything is moved by trucks from the ports. The combination of cheap land, plentiful sunshine and expensive fuel makes for the perfect disruption to diesel trucking. Battery storage will increasingly connect cheap solar energy with EV charging, bringing down total ownership costs for fleet managers. While EV adoption among European leasing companies has slowed due to low resale value (which reflects in their balance sheet), commercial fleets are well-placed to pick up the demand. Commercial fleets have strong incentives for EV adoption: consistent high mileage; back to base charging; and pressure from clients to decarbonize. My conversations with commercial fleet managers reveal that they are excited about EVs, and especially so given that EVs guarantee fixed energy costs. Unlike oil, the price of the sun does not fluctuate." #futuremobility, #carbonemissions, #decarbonisation, #climateransition, #southafrica https://lnkd.in/dy3PQzsZ

LEVE MOBILITY was responsible for the end-to-end proposal and worshop delivery, of a project supporting Brazilian organisations to decarbonise energy and ports, funded in 2022 within #UKPACT (Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions) program by the UK Government's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, with delivery partner PA Consulting "The support raised awareness of the importance of a comprehensive approach on business models, technology spectrum, regulation, and policy design for hydrogen markets." Florencio Gabriel Cuervo Prieto, MSc MBA. produced a final recommendations report summarising the potential of hydrogen in Brazil, based on the findings and insights gathered from his visit Supporting Brazil's Energy Research Office to build the basis for a national low-carbon hydrogen programme "The UK PACT skill-share helped us convene key stakeholders in the public and private sector to have an open and provocative dialogue about policy design and regulation for transitioning to low carbon fuels, including hydrogen. The skill-share expert brought his knowledge and experience, including from the British context, helping the Brazilian stakeholders better understand trade-offs, risks, and opportunities." • EV Charging: As EV drivers, we started with Range Anxiety, then lived the Queue Anxiety, and now we are experiencing Ghost Charging. It is worth considering likely human behaviour risks when planning your infrastructure for electric vehicles.

EV Charging etiquette: Be the Guest, not the ghost. The "new rich" behavior seen whilst the EV drivers adapt during EV massification. The prioritisation for EV drivers among the drivers population may create abuse within the new group. How do you see this behaviour will evolve?

What is ghost charging and how are half of EV owners using it to get priority?
