UNDP B+HR's guide to human rights due diligence and the environment is now live. Levin Sources, through our Director of Responsible Sourcing and Responsible Investment Julie Schindall, is pleased to have contributed to the development of this practical tool for business. This guide is one of the first of its kind to address how to bring together the “H” and the “E” in a #DueDiligence approach that can improve outcomes for people and environments affected by business. In the context of the #JustTransition, this holistic approach to #ResponsibleBusinessConduct is critical for resilient, sustainable business and society. It’s also the pathway increasingly required of regulations #CSDDD #CSRD #EUBattteriesRegulation Read the full guide below: https://lnkd.in/diu3FYPX

Levin Sources is proud to be an expert partner on human rights and environmental due diligence to the DiliCHANCE project, funded by the European Commission. Find out more about our kick-off meeting in Vienna in October below:
The European Union has identified due diligence as a key element in achieving its economic and sustainability objectives. The DiliCHANCE project, funded by the European Commission, will provide targeted support to companies for successful due diligence in mineral supply chains. The aim of the three-year project is to develop a practical, comprehensive platform as a one-stop-shop for due diligence. At the end of October, the kick-off meeting of the project took place in Vienna, Austria. “Only by capturing accurate and comprehensive data can we prioritise interventions that drive meaningful improvements in miners’ lives.” The Fair Cobalt Alliance (FCA)’s first-of-its-kind community-perception-based M&E report offers critical insights into the lived experiences of those at the heart of the cobalt operations at Kamilombe mine in Kolwezi, DR. Congo. The report includes a foreword by Chair of the FCA’s Advisory Board & Managing Director at Levin Sources Holger Grundel. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/dAnMf49s #Cobalt #FairCobalt

Last month, the CRM-geothermal project hosted a consultation in #Cornwall (UK) to gather the thoughts of local communities and other stakeholders on how dual #geothermal-metal extraction projects can achieve ‘social licence to operate’ in the UK, EU and beyond. The consultation findings will ultimately be captured in Guidelines for Obtaining and Maintaining Social Licence to Operate, a ‘how-to’ manual currently being developed by Levin Sources, one of the project’s partners. During the consultation, five key themes emerged, offering valuable insights for shaping the guidelines around community consultation in the context of SLO for this type of project. 1️⃣ Honesty and transparency are key 2️⃣ Make your information accessible 3️⃣ Consider the community context 4️⃣ Be proactive in engaging stakeholders 5️⃣ Think beyond the project Find out more: https://lnkd.in/eiaYZvWK 📅 Attend our Consultation on good practice guidelines for geothermal – metal extraction on 16 December in Chacewater: https://lnkd.in/dNuFUWvJ 📷 Photos Geothermal Engineering Ltd

🌍🔋 Exploring Priorities for a Just Energy Transition We’re proud to share the results of our strategic assessments into transition minerals, funded by ClimateWorks Foundation. 🌱 This work dives deep into the opportunities and challenges across 11 key countries—including Australia, Chile, Indonesia, and Zambia—to identify where greater attention, investment and action can drive the most impact for building secure, responsible, and resilient minerals supply chains, nationally and globally. As the world pivots towards more sustainable energy systems, transition minerals are critical. Our reports provide actionable insights for policymakers, philanthropic funders, industry, and civil society to focus resources where they’re most needed. We are excited to contribute to the just energy transition by equipping stakeholders with the knowledge and tools to drive greater sustainability through minerals value chains. By working together, we can ensure that the energy solutions of tomorrow are built responsibly, equitably, and for the benefit of all. 📖 Read more about this work and our findings here: https://lnkd.in/dBVzRhfS Estelle Levin-Nally Blanca Racionero Gómez #JustTransition #Sustainability #Minerals #ClimateAction #EnergyTransition

Explore our #ResponsibleMining services: ➡️ We advise and assist publicly listed and private mining companies to manage risk and drive sustainable development through their relationships with their business partners, affected rightsholders and regulators. ➡️ As a basis for this advice, we use international norms and industry standards in environmental and human rights due diligence for responsible mining, sourcing and investment, such as the IFC Performance Standards, the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises on Responsible Business Conduct, and the Voluntary Principles for Business & Human Rights. ➡️ We work across a range of minerals and geographies. We have three specialities: ➡️ Educating multidisciplinary teams to evolve approaches to better manage risk, strategically. ➡️ Understanding and developing strategies to manage community relations & artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) well to build trust and the licence to operate. ➡️ Strengthening and leveraging multistakeholder collaborations with investors, mineral offtakers, downstream companies and in-country mining peers to tackle joint issues and optimise sustainable impact. Contact us to find out how we can help with your ASM management.

We’ve learned a lot in our collaboration with ABN AMRO Bank N.V. over the past 2+ years on this Human Rights Remedy Mechanism and we’ll be keen to see how it evolves over the pilot period. Congratulations to the many people at ABN AMRO who worked very hard to make this mechanism a reality! Julie Schindall Lucie Goulet

Global challenges can’t be addressed without effective cooperation. We’ve developed 🔵 The Cooperation Pathway for Sustainable Minerals Value Chains 🔵 to help our stakeholders consider where they are in their journey to solving those big problems that can’t be resolved alone. It helps you see what needs to be strengthened to cooperate better, or identify where there is or may be duplication of effort, resource wastage or competition that is getting in the way of addressing a shared goal. The Pathway is particularly applicable to multistakeholder processes seeking to align diverse stakeholders to take complementary or joint action to address a common issue or opportunity. For example, ➡️ How can downstream actors and their investors address the severe ecological impacts of critical minerals production in Indonesia, Brazil or Zambia? ➡️ How can the West African gold mining community address the cumulative impacts of their activities on the transboundary Faleme River? ➡️ What should national women’s collectives prioritise when pushing for changes to policy and culture? It can also be used as a tool within companies to build greater alignment and cooperation on contentious issues, like dealing with community conflict or artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM).
