An extremely worthwhile, local charity who give support to those who need it. Everyone has charities close to their heart and we know at this time of year, money can be scarce. This year Jasper Kerr and Link MEP have decided to donate to The Peoples Kitchen for their ‘Feed and Friend for a Fiver’ campaign. This will provide a Christmas Dinner to someone who might otherwise go without and help to serve many more meals during the winter period. A completed pre-student Citi View can finally be revealed. This £30m, 100,000sq ft, 353-bed Student Accommodation in Paddington is in full use after 15 months on site. Working in partnership with FaulknerBrowns, Paragon Construction Consultants, MS Construction Consultants, Link MEP Consulting Engineers Ltd, Portland Consulting Engineers, Cundall, DP9 Limited, Jensen Hughes, Salus (Building Control & Fire Safety Consultants) Ltd and Clement Acoustics Ltd, the team has created Zone One’s most contemporary and inclusive student accommodation space, on behalf of our client Union Property Services Ltd. We have expanded the building to deliver an additional 25 student bedrooms, demolished and replaced two lift and stair cores, created learning spaces, social areas and a gym and installed a new roof, windows, and repairs to the façade, all before delivery of a high-quality Cat B fit-out. This included the installation of new local indoor heat pumps to generate hot water within each of the properties. The replacement of the gas fired heating system to direct electric panel heaters and the electrical infrastructure upgrade were other areas where Link added value in designing the works on behalf of sub contractors H. Malone & Sons Ltd. and McNally and Thompson Ltd on behalf of RE:GEN Group. #LinkMEP
This week our chair Nik Welsh and vice chair Lee Francis were out visiting sites in Durham and Newcastle discussing the successes and challenges of net zero with Guy Woodroffe, Head of Policy, Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. Firstly, they attended a live site at Heaton Park Court where Brian Bedford and the team from RE:GEN detailed how they had found an innovative solution for replacing the existing heating system in a high rise belonging to Newcastle city council. The overall results not only provide an aesthetic upgrade to the block but made the homes inside warmer and easier to heat for the residents. They also visited an estate of non-traditional properties in Durham where Ruth Dent from believe housing explained the difficulties housing providers face when net zero works are simply not viable, and the process that landlords go through to reach the decision of demolition and regeneration of an estate. During the visits Nik and Lee spoke to Guy at length about the great work our members are achieving as part of the SHDF, they put forward members concerns regarding the length of programmes and certainty of funding and pipeline and concentrated on the success we have had in the region to date, and the great collaborative working we are seeing across the north east. Gateshead Community Diagnostics Centre is complete. Most schemes that we are involved with provide us with a sense of achievement at completion. The Gateshead Community Diagnostics Centre has provided a really great sense of achievement. From the basic building shell of the old House of Fraser store to Practical Completion of the CDC in less than a 12 months construction period represents a fantastic achievement. This has been achieved through the efforts of a great team. Well done everyone.
