The power of community action never ceases to amaze me. As I pick up the laptop after a few days to tot up our end of year numbers, I'm just in awe of the impact our small but mighty charity has had, and the lives that have been transformed as a result of it. 💚1220 bundles of support distributed in 2024 💚£126,116 worth of items distributed to children and families facing poverty 💚10 tonnes of donations collected from our community These numbers though, are just numbers, every number has its own powerful story. The single mum struggling to make ends meet for her 4 children after job loss and lifechanging diagnosis earlier this year, supported throughout the year with clothing, footwear, Back to School support and Christmas presents. The working mum who fell pregnant with twins, but had to finish work early due to pregnancy complications, premature arrival of the babies and ongoing health challenges preventing her from returning to work, supported with equipment and clothing throughout the year. The mum and children fleeing war, facing parenthood alone in unfamiliar surroundings after traumatic bereavement of their children's father in their home country, supported with warm clothing and appropriate footwear, toiletries and toys so they were more prepared to deal with our Manchester weather. That's just three of the hundreds of families we have supported in the last 12 months. We really have a fight for survival on our hands as an organisation as we move into 2025, with the planned demolition of our premises, and the need to raise funds for a new space urgently. We're hoping we can find somewhere but need all the help we can get to afford it! The need for our work is growing and we don't want to leave the families of Trafford with no safety net. Relief knowing you have a warm coat for your child to walk to school? Relief knowing your child can participate in sports now they have some trainers? Relief that your child won't wake up on Christmas morning with nothing to open? Relief that your child has clean underwear? Relief that your child has some books and toys to distract them from the trauma they have endured whilst you move into a refuge? We are thrilled to announce that AJ Bell Futures Foundation have generously donated £20,000 to our Save Our Baby Bank campaign! Big thanks to Anya Gorton who came out to visit us with the big charity cheque yesterday and saw first hand the impact and scale of our work. Festive volunteering, in a Christmas support project, on Christmas Jumper day, can’t get more festive than that! Big shout out to Team Assura plc and Team Freshfields who were our Santa elves this week restocking our Magical Christmas shelves so families could come and choose gifts for their families, and also helped us pack tailored bags for families unable to make it to us in person. ‘They arrived with a carrier bag of belongings for 3 children’ A referral we see on a frequent basis with almost 1 in 3 referrals for families fleeing abuse. Imagine fleeing your home in fear of your life and the life of your children, and just grabbing what you can. Your toddlers favourite teddy to reassure your little one in an unfamiliar place, and whatever else you have time to grab and run, to get your family to safety. Often arriving in refuge with few belongings families need an urgent referral over to us to provide a generous bundle of clothing & footwear, appropriate for season, and lovingly checked and prepared by our team of incredible volunteers. Added toiletries, toys, books - for all 3 children. Plus equipment like high chairs, cots, prams, feeding equipment. We’re a lifeline to these families who are so often financially isolated, with no financial access. If we close, there is no other support. Whether through relationship breakdown, bereavement, or fleeing domestic abuse, they face a monumental task every day—and do so with incredible resilience and love. Imagine balancing the soaring costs of childcare, with nursery fees reaching £70-£90 per day. For many single parents on minimum wage, this completely wipes out any earnings. School-hour-friendly work? Nearly impossible to find. And when a child is sick or needs to attend appointments, there’s no one to share the load—it's all on them. At Little Green Sock Project, we currently support 495 single parents, providing essentials like warm clothing, nursery equipment, toys, books, and more. We're Trafford's only Baby Bank where 11,000 children live in poverty. If we close, there is nowhere else. 60% of our referrals come directly from health and social care professionals such as health visitors, social workers and midwives. Many of them tell us that our support helps them to build relationships with the families they are working with so they are more engaged with their support. We can't lose this safety net for vulnerable families and for our front line health and social care teams who are already under immense strain. 🚨 Urgent Appeal: Save Our Baby Bank! 🚨 Our charity is at imminent risk of closure and we need your help. Our 5000sq ft premises in Stretford is set to be demolished in 2025 and we urgently need to secure another premises to continue our vital work. Sadly if we don't have anything secured by January, we will be forced to close. We can't let this happen. Too many families need our support 💚 Since we started in 2022 we have supported over 1300 children with items essential for their health and development. A classroom of children are supported every week with clothing, equipment and safe places to sleep. We have redistributed £240,000 worth of items to the most vulnerable families in Trafford and Greater Manchester through our referral partners in health, social care and community organisations, and saved over 20 tonnes of items from landfill. We strongly believe that all children should have access to the essentials needed for a safe healthy childhood, regardless of their families financial situation. We are actively seeking partnerships with organisations that believe in what we do and can assist us – whether by providing space or sponsoring a suitable premises. We require 5000 sq. ft of accessible ground floor space ideally in Trafford, immediate surrounding areas could be considered. DM for info.
