On 28th October, Jennifer won £100 by playing the Local Hospice Lottery in support of East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH) 💜 She tells us what influenced her to support the Hospice's incredible work: "I was very happy to win £100 in the Local Hospice Lottery as I have been supporting EACH for many years. Little did I know what was about to happen two and a half years ago when we lost our precious granddaughter Alana, aged 7, to a brain tumour. She had a 7-hour operation at Great Ormond Street Hospital, and she passed away a few weeks later. Thank you to EACH for all their work - I will carry on supporting the Hospice." Ongoing kindness is essential for hospices to continue delivering support to the whole family. Local Hospice Lottery is a hospice-owned, not-for-profit organisation, which allows communities to support their local hospice while being in with the chance to win cash prizes. About us
Local Hospice Lottery exists to be the leading lottery for hospices – providing additional funding and opportunities for growth by inspiring people to support their local hospice in a fair, open and affordable way. Starting in 1996 as Farleigh Hospice’s own lottery, Local Hospice Lottery was developed in 2007 to enable other hospices to benefit from our established weekly draw. Fast forward to today and Local Hospice Lottery is the country’s leading lottery for hospices and has raised in excess of £65,000,000 for hospice care up and down the country. It’s about strength in numbers and through 35+ hospices working together and sharing one prize fund and one set of administration and management costs, we can maximise marketing opportunities and ensure our partner hospices receive more income than they would from running their own lottery. In 2023, £13,644,000 was raised from tickets purchased by players supporting all participating hospices, with 2% spent on prizes, 12% spent on administration and management and 19% reinvested to recruit new lottery players. The remaining 67% was given to hospice care – an amazing total of £9,163,000! Our values are Supportive, Fair, Professional and Ambitious and we ensure that these are threaded throughout everything we do. Interested to find out more about working with us? This week is National Grief Awareness Week 2024, organised by The Good Grief Trust. Visit their website to find some great resources for supporting those who are grieving: https://lnkd.in/entCVFS4 Today, we wanted to share Kelly and Gary's experience of how important the counselling at East Anglia's Children's Hospices - EACH was when their daughter, Annabel, passed away at The Nook. Kelly said, "After we left the Hospice, we started weekly one-to-one counselling sessions with Amy. These sessions helped us so much – they took us through our feelings and showed us it was ok to feel those things. The difference these sessions have made is huge to us. EACH are such an amazing support for families when a child is still alive, but even after a child has passed, they are still there – for as long as you need them for." Gary added, "Going to The Nook for those two days probably saved my life. I probably wouldn't still be here, but because I had that immediate counselling from Amy, it saved me. I really didn't want to go home after Annabel passed. Because we left for the hospital in such a rush, everything was just left – her bed was literally as we'd left it, and I didn't know how I would cope with that." Additional income could mean your hospice could support more families going through the most challenging of times. Let Local Hospice Lottery help you in finding this regular and reliable income! Eleanor (right) has been playing the Local Hospice Lottery for six years and was surprised and overjoyed to have recently won £2,000 by supporting Children's Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS)! 🥰 She said: “I was delighted when I got the call to say I had won as I have never really won anything before. I have a good friend whose son suffered from Muscular Dystrophy and sadly died young. Even though they didn’t use CHAS personally I know the charity does so much good work in helping children and families who have similar circumstances which is why I am proud to play the Local Hospice Lottery in support of CHAS." Danielle, the Fundraising Campaigns Co-ordinator at CHAS presented the cheque to Eleanor at Robin House, and said: “I am delighted that Eleanor has won this amazing sum of money from the Local Hospice Lottery. Supporters like Eleanor who play the Lottery in support of CHAS make a real difference to local families in need of our help as the Lottery provides a regular income for the charity so it really is win-win!” Is your hospice looking for a way to encourage more community support? "For many, hospices are not where people go to die, but where people go to live." Did you watch ITV1's programme 'Keeping Care Alive: Hospice in Crisis?' last night? If you missed the 30 minute special, you can watch it here: https://lnkd.in/eArG4qkk
Thank you to the patients are care staff of St Giles Hospice in Staffordshire, Zoe's Place Baby Hospice, Liverpool and Hospiscare in Exeter for allowing Daniel Hewitt and team to make such a compelling and important documentary for last night's Tonight show on ITV1. Thanks also to Professor Katherine Sleeman and palliative care doctor and author Rachel Clarke for their wise contributions. If you missed it, you can watch it on ITVX using the link below Special thanks to Dave and Kelly, the first people to feature on the programme. Dave was in for end-of-life care at St Giles, where Kelly actually works as part of the care team, but sadly died between filming and the programme airing. These are the people for whom the fight for fairer hospice funding is being fought, as part of the UK's need for equitable and adequately resourced palliative care

Lucky Meghan (left) from Hackney was overjoyed when she won £2,000 through playing to the Local Hospice Lottery in support of St Joseph's Hospice! 🥳 Meghan said: "I pretty much live next door to St Joseph's Hospice; it is a part of our community and our life. My children actually went to the nursery right by the Hospice, and a special moment was when the nursery children used to come into the Hospice for lunch. It's always been close to our hearts and home." 🏡 When asked how she felt about her win, Meghan said: "I felt surprised, shocked and it was unexpected. But it reminded me of something you can do without even thinking. I play the Local Hospice Lottery and Sponsor a Nurse – I've been doing it for years. It reminds me of what this is about and how important it is – it struck a chord for me in terms of the value. Obviously, it's lovely to receive this, but you also get reminded of the work done and how special and important it is for the community." 🫶 Our weekly draws are a fun way for communities to support their local hospice, while being in with a chance to win great cash prizes, for only £1 per chance!
