In December DVSA published an update to the Load Security Code of Practice (LSCOP). This document is the benchmark for loading, unloading and carrying goods safely on all road going vehicles. As well as a framework of titles being added, the revised code incorporates feedback from stakeholders and includes: · More detail on risk assessment. · A number of new sections including carrying asbestos and precast concrete. · Updated consignor responsibilities. Logistics UK reposted this
🏴 The beauty of Wales was temporarily hidden today with the fog, but there was plenty of clear direction from members of our Logistics UK Wales Freight Council on issues ranging from skill challenges in the sector, to industry priorities for the forthcoming Comprehensive Spending Review, to speed limit policies and road regulation. Thank you to Ian jarman for his superb chairing as always and to colleagues Josh Fenton and Bethany Windsor CMILT for leading discussions. #Wales #Logistics

Following the publication of the IPPR’s report “Towards a UK trade strategy”, Logistics UK Head of Trade & Devolved Policy Nichola Mallon outlines the critical role of #logistics: “Nothing moves without logistics and as a foundational sector it needs to be central to the UK’s trade strategy. As the IPPR highlight, it is essential for the UK to reset its trading relationship with the EU and Logistics UK has been pressing the government to expand trade with Europe by making it as frictionless as possible. Logistics UK is also aligned with the IPPR regarding the importance of supply chain resilience, something we have long been championing, and the need for the trade strategy to deliver growth across the whole of the UK and facilitate a fair transition to a green economy.” The full report can be found here: https://lnkd.in/eHrcs9Zi

"#Decarbonisation is one of the biggest challenges facing the logistics industry, as businesses seek to match the need to move away from a reliance on fossil fuels with pressures from customers to maximise delivery efficiency. Currently, almost 90 percent of the UK's freight is moved by road, so it is important that the sector considers alternatively-fuelled vehicles and a shift to different transport modes in order to fulfil demand. Today's announcement from Amazon demonstrates the sector's willingness to change and its commitment to reducing overall emissions." Michelle Gardner, Deputy Director, Policy https://lnkd.in/eYv_JhB3

Rethinking the London Lorry Control Scheme - join us at Martin Brower's Coventry site on the 6th of February to explore the future of the London Lorry Control Scheme. All the details and link to sign up to attend are in the post below.
*Invite to an industry meeting on the London Lorry Control Scheme – February 2025* Following on from our post on LinkedIn calling for collaboration with a view to a fresh look at the London Lorry Control Scheme (LLCS) (https://lnkd.in/ekScCDy7) we would like to invite you to a meeting, kindly hosted by Martin Brower at their Coventry DC on Thursday 6 February. At the meeting we intend to pull together data on routes/hours to show how economically inefficient LLCS is to London, and how it requires larger vehicles to be on the road network in the daytime, alongside vulnerable road users. Timings as follows: 10:30 for coffee, with a start time of 11:00. A working lunch will be provided, and we hope to close around 1400. We will set out how the scheme works, the political dimension behind the origins of the scheme and who are the key decision-makers we will want to speak with, to begin a possible revision of the regulations. We will then continue with a discussion as to how the restrictions affect commercial operations in London, so if you are able, please do come with examples of how this affects your company. We will continue the conversation following the conclusion of the day via email and virtual meet ups. The meeting will be held under competition law guidance so please do not reveal any commercially sensitive information. Please do save the date. To register your interest in attending, please click here - https://lnkd.in/eSbRGiDi, and further information will be circulated in advance. The precise location will be sent out in the confirmation email.
