This is worth a read for the whole #DoughtnutEconomics global community. Great analysis of the impact of wealth on Planetary Boundaries. "We show that 31–67% and 51–91% of the planetary boundary breaching responsibility could be attributed to the global top 10% and top 20% of consumers, respectively, from both developed and developing countries." https://lnkd.in/diepTDVy Doughnut Economics Action Lab (DEAL) Transform:GM (Doughnut Economics in Greater Manchester) Amsterdam Donut Coalitie

Two interesting areas for the #DoughnutEconomics crowd. #Regenerative real estate and the link between the climate and biodiversity crises. Worth digging into depending on your interests. Diba Salam RIBA ARB
The Most Important Diagram You’ll Ever See We’ve been using the wrong indicator. Focusing solely on CO₂ allows for climate mitigation while intensifying pressure on other planetary boundaries—shifting, rather than solving, the crisis. But reversing biodiversity loss inherently strengthens all planetary boundaries. Still, without cutting emissions, restoring ecosystems alone won’t bring us back within safe and just limits. This is the crux of our challenge: neither emissions reductions nor ecosystem restoration are enough on their own. True progress means addressing both core system boundaries—because they are what make life on Earth possible. 🚀 We are launching our Doughnut Design for Business case studies! Doughnut Economics Action Lab (DEAL) has curated a broad set of case studies that are drawn from across the business world - from smaller & more place-based businesses to much larger global companies. They include examples of enterprise design in local cooperatives & social enterprises all the way to subsidiaries of much larger + global corporations. The common thread is a compelling business approach being pursued that is enabled by unique features in the deep design of the business. Join me & Kate Raworth + amazing team of case study authors, including Sujay Hammannavar, Sascha Glasl, Asuncion Aguilar, Tim Frenneaux, Guerrilla Media Collective, Vanessa Rosenthal, Wynnie Zhao, Sabita Banerji, Bryony Jansen - van Tuyll, Valeria Radosavljević, Renée Cullinan, Saundharaya Khanna and more to hear about the 14 we have published, and the new ones we're publishing then. We'll explore what we learned about these business and the role of enterprise design through our 6 month research + writing journey! 📆 5 March at 3pm GMT / 4pm CEST / 10am EST / 8.30pm IST 🔗 https://lnkd.in/erYWEw3U

This is a really important contribution to our understanding of the risks to our ability 'to provide society's needs within the planet's limits', the idea at the heart of #DoughnutEconomics. A report that deserves the widest possible and most influential audience. One quote from the report's recommendations: "Set Planetary Solvency limits that respect planetary boundaries • Develop risk limits and thresholds to manage our activities within these. • Develop a range of metrics that monitor planetary health, as well as human societal indicators such as the economy, health, equity, food and water security. • Use the precautionary principle when faced with uncertainty, for example, to minimise likelihood of breaching tipping points." The global economy could face a 50% loss in GDP between 2070 and 2090, unless immediate policy action on risks posed by the climate crisis is taken. Published today, ‘Planetary Solvency – finding our balance with nature’ is the IFoA’s fourth report in collaboration with climate scientists and explores a framework for global risk management to address climate risks and show how this approach can support future prosperity. Liking this thoughtful approach to reshaping business strategy. Ed Jarvis BSc MSc MAPM 🌍 Jo Woods Fin Murphy Richard Johnson

The world is waking up to the undeniable reality that our businesses must shift to operate within planetary and social boundaries to create a thriving future. Kate Raworth’s Doughnut Economics offers a profound lens through which to see this future clearly—one where humanity lives between a "social foundation" (what all people need to thrive) and an "ecological ceiling" (the limits of Earth's life-supporting systems). Back in January, Rob and I explored how businesses can reimagine their economic roles through this framework. Visit this post to see how we guide Snowhaven through each step of the Doughnut Design for Business process. A spectacularly comprehensive review 👇 of future facing academic economic research for you #DoughnutEconomists out there. Part authored by Kate Raworth and including many of the best academics in their fields. Many of us will find it a hard read so for the TL:DR brigade here's a very brief summary: We don't have all the answers but we are getting better at asking the questions. In particular: How can we pay for the transition to an economy that meets people's needs within the planet's limits? What are the political routes to this goal? We can see clues to policy routes including; "universal access to essential goods and services, working-time reduction, and carbon and wealth taxes". And a bonus for those in the Doughnut Economics Action Lab (DEAL) family: "One interesting direction is participatory action research, such as the Doughnut Economics Action Labs, where stakeholders and members of the public develop post-growth programmes for their cities." Which is what we do! Come and join us if you want to use your skills, get your hands dirty (not literally), and have fun 😊 helping do the important work of showing how to make London a better place for people and planet and a showcase for the world. Really interesting new study from Jason Hickel, Kate Raworth and others - "Post-growth: the science of wellbeing within planetary boundaries" 👩⚕️🌍 Taken from the summary of the research: ➡ There are increasing concerns that continued economic growth in high-income countries might not be environmentally sustainable, socially beneficial, or economically achievable. ➡ The central idea of post-growth is to replace the goal of increasing GDP with the goal of improving human wellbeing within planetary boundaries. ➡ Key advances discussed in this Review include: the development of ecological macroeconomic models that test policies for managing without growth; understanding and reducing the growth dependencies that tie social welfare to increasing GDP in the current economy; and characterising the policies and provisioning systems that would allow resource use to be reduced while improving human wellbeing. ➡ Despite recent advances in post-growth research, important questions remain, such as the politics of transition, and transformations in the relationship between the Global North and the Global South. This was published in The Lancet - there's a link to the full study (no login/paywall) in the comments below 👇 (To clarify: I haven't read it in full yet - I am saving it for some bedtime reading) 🤓 #postgrowth #planetaryboundaries #gdp #degrowth

The word #culture stems from the Latin 𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘦𝘳𝘦, meaning ‘to tend’ or ‘to cultivate.’ While it originally referred to cultivating the soil, by the 16th century, it evolved to encompass nurturing the mind, skills, relationships, and ideas—a process of refinement and growth. Culture, then, is more than tradition. It’s about looking forward, cultivating what doesn’t yet exist, and #nurturing new stories and narratives. What are the future possibilities we want to cultivate? London, a city of incredible #diversity, thrives on #innovation born from its traditions and the countless cultures that co-create here daily. Diversity drives progress. So, what is the London we want to grow further? For 2025, let’s bring more voices to decision-making spaces, learn from those often unheard, and collaborate across sectors and communities. Lateral thinking, shared responsibilities, and regenerative practices are key to building an economy that respects the well-being of all. Together, let’s cultivate a London where everyone thrives, and consider what we each want to nurture in our lives and our communities. __ Quote / Binki Taylor, Founding Partner at The Brixton Project, at the Global Donut Days 2024. #LondonDoughnut #PurposeDriven #BetterFutures #RegenerativeEconomy #FutureLondon
