Last week, had the pleasure of taking part in multiple events during London EdTech Week 2024 🇬🇧 One of these was a session that EDGE Tutor International and Goodnotes co-hosted, and it focused on what the European tutoring industry can learn from Asia-Pacific’s tutoring market 🌏 A 30 minute panel can’t do justice to the complexities of the world’s growth engine and its obsession with education, but the insights were short, sweet and candid. Big thanks to our panelists Daniel Emmerson from Goodnotes, Vincent Fung from IBIS Capital, and Toby Mather from Lingumi! 👏 #LETW #EdgeTutor #Edtech

To Expand or Not to Expand to the US 🇺🇸Market? Hey friends! 🌟 I recently attended an awesome panel discussion at Cooley during London EdTech Week, and I couldn't wait to share some of the insights with you. 🏡Maximize Your Home Market First Slava Kremerman from Zen Educate pointed out that it’s crucial to fully capitalize on your home market before jumping into the US. His advice? Ensure you’re ready for the scale and speed of growth the US demands. Zen Educate’s success in the UK provided a solid foundation before they looked across the pond. 🗺️… Go Global Early if You Can On the flip side, Sari Hurme-Mehtälä 👩🏽🔬 CEO of Kide Science by Accelerate Learning had a different take. For her, going international right from the start, especially if you’re from a country like Finland with a stellar education reputation, was key. Finnish education is world-renowned, which made it easier for Kids Science to target the US market early on with their innovative educational products. A Bit of Humor: Most panelists agreed on one thing: no matter your previous successes, cracking the US market, especially dealing with school administrators, can be a Herculean task. As one speaker humorously put it, “It’s like a ‘never again’ moment!” Many thanks to all the Panel Participants: Bertie Hubbard (Founder & CEO, MyTutor) Sari Hurme-Mehtala (Founder & CEO, Kide Science) Slava Kremerman (Founder & CEO, Zen Educate) Benoit Wirz (Partner, Brighteye Ventures) And Kate Lea Carey (Moderator, Special Counsel, Cooley). This discussion really got me thinking about the balance between local dominance and global ambition. While it makes sense to build a strong base at home, sometimes taking the plunge into the international scene can bring unique advantages, depending on your product and market dynamics. It was also fantastic to catch up with friends at the event and see some Ukrainian brands making waves! Special shoutout to the Cooley LLP team for hosting us in their stunning office with those breathtaking views. 🌆 What do you think? Should EdTech companies grow locally first or go global early? Drop your thoughts in the comments! #EdTech #LondonEdTechWeek #USMarket #Expansion #Cooley #Innovation #Education

London EdTech Week: After a busy week at #Londontechweek, we had the pleasure of attending the more bespoke events at #EdTechX organised by techUK, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and EDT&Partners. Dennis McQuillan from AWS highlighted how generative AI and cloud infrastructure are transforming education, making advanced technologies more accessible and affordable. Strategic partnerships were a key focus offering help to EdTech partners expand into new markets and streamline procurement through programs like AWS Marketplace. Besides, addressing mental health and fostering inclusion are essential. Tools that support emotional well-being and create a sense of belonging can significantly enhance the educational experience. Katherine (Kate) Lee Carey from Cooley LLP emphasized the importance of understanding local regulations and customizing strategies for successful market entry. The events hosted around London underscored the unprecedented opportunities in education through digital transformation. Embracing emerging technologies, forming strategic partnerships, and focusing on mental health and inclusion are vital for growth. For more detailed insights, please check out: https://lnkd.in/gWJyCUS3 'Best Use Cases of AI for Life, Learning, and Work' hosted by Goodnotes also shared some exciting insights. Bukky Yusuf of London & Partners discussed the benefits and challenges of AI in education. While AI can reduce teachers’ workloads, there are concerns about commercial hype and social-emotional impacts. Goodnotes also demonstrated AI tools for teachers, showing how AI can assess students’ understanding and help rephrase students’ confusions, reducing teachers’ emotional strain. We are excited about these advancements and their potential to transform education. At Shadow Academy, we’re excited to take these insights and apply them to help early-stage entrepreneurs turn ideas into successful businesses. #edtech #entreprenuer #AI
