Bringing wonder to the modern world through the power of orchestral music
About us
The London Philharmonic Orchestra is an internationally acclaimed symphony orchestra based at Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall. In summer months the Orchestra is Resident at Glyndebourne Festival Opera. The London Philharmonic Orchestra is recognised as one of the world's great orchestras, and following Sir Thomas Beecham's founding tenure the ensemble's Principal Conductorship has been passed from one celebrated musician to another. The current Principal Conductor is Edward Gardner and Karina Canellakis is Principal Guest Conductor. In addition to its concert series in London, Brighton and Eastbourne, the Orchestra has an international touring schedule which in recent years has taken it to the USA, China, Taiwan, Dubai and across Europe. The London Philharmonic Orchestra has long been embraced by the recording, broadcasting and film industries. It enjoys strong relationships with major record labels and in 2005 began releasing live, studio and archive recordings on its own label CDs which are distributed worldwide and are also available as downloads. The Orchestra has broadcast regularly on domestic and international television and radio from both the concert hall and the opera house, and has worked extensively with both Hollywood and the UK film industries, recording soundtracks for blockbuster motion pictures including the Oscar-winning score for The Lord of the Rings trilogy and scores for Lawrence of Arabia, The Mission, East is East and In the Name of the Father. The London Philharmonic Orchestra's international reputation is matched by a steadfast and unflinching commitment to the communities of its local London boroughs of Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham. The Orchestra reaches thousands through its varied and extensive programme of education work, both community and school-based.

That's a wrap ✨ We're still on cloud nine after finishing our tour of the US with our Principal Conductor Ed Gardner earlier this week! From California to Carnegie, we've enjoyed every minute and have loved seeing so many of you at our concerts 🫶 Huge thanks must, of course, go to our wonderful soloists Randall Goosby and Patricia Kopatchinskaja for their breathtaking performances of Barber and Shostakovich Violin Concertos 🤩 Next, we're back to our London home at the Southbank Centre for Strauss's Ein Heldenleben with Sir Mark Elder on Friday!

The sun set on the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s extraordinary US Tour on Monday night. And what a sunset it was amongst the red and golden leaves of Connecticut’s Grace Farms Foundation. Our chamber ensemble was honoured to perform at Grace Farms Foundation’s Ninth Anniversary Benefit to an audience of 700 from the stage of the stunning Sanctuary of their SAANA-designed River Building. Conducted by former LPO Fellow Conductor Luis Castillo-Briceno, the Orchestra performed music by Ravel and Mozart alongside Jessi Montgomery's Strum for string instruments. The Benefit, which combined the Grace Farms and London Philharmonic programme themes of ‘Architecture Moves Us’ and ‘Moments Remembered’ was typical of this hugely authentic and meaningful partnership, now in its second year. We offer our thanks to Grace Farms CEO & Founder Sharon Prince, Chief Strategy Officer & Creative Director Chelsea Thatcher, Music Director Marcus G. Miller, and their wonderful team for their vision and collaborative ethos. We also thank them for sending us home imbued with the energy and restfulness of the Grace Farms campus and reaffirmation that culture and the arts will play a fundamental role in making the world a better place. Core memory unlocked 🔓 We're still in a New York State of Mind after our Carnegie Hall concert on Saturday night! 🗽 Thank you so much to everyone who came along to see us 🫶 It was such a joy to see the incredible reaction to Patricia Kopatchinskaja's breathtaking rendition of Shostakovich's Violin Concerto and we had a blast performing LPO Composer-in-Residence Tania León's Raíces (Origins). Not to mention, this was our Principal Conductor Ed Gardner's Carnegie Hall debut. Certainly a night to remember for us all! We’ve had the best time on tour in the US ❤️ Watch this space to see more from our trip! 📸 : Marco Borggreve
