Championing and strengthening London’s youth organisations so young people have the opportunities and skills they need.

About us

We are London Youth: a charity on a mission to champion and strengthen London’s youth organisations so young people have the opportunities and skills they need to succeed. We do this with and through our members – a network of 600 youth organisations – and at our two outdoor residential centres, Hindleap Warren and Woodrow High House. Throughout our 135-year history, community youth organisations have provided a constant lifeline and a vital safe space outside the family and formal education, where young people can develop confidence, resilience and skills. Young people need opportunities outside school to have fun with their friends, to make a positive change in their communities and to shape the city they live in.

  • Mentoring plays a crucial role in youth work by providing guidance, support and positive role models for young people. It helps create a foundation for personal growth, resilience and future success. One of our members involved in the Mentoring Support Programme, Streetz Ahead, goes beyond dance steps. They offer a holistic approach to youth work, blending mentoring, therapy and creative arts to enrich the lives of young people and families. In today’s video, we hear from Harry, one of their mentors, and his mentee as they share their individual experiences, challenges and successes throughout their journey. We’re delighted to announce that our Mentoring Support Programme offer, delivered in partnership with LifeLine Projects, will continue in 2025. Thanks to ongoing funding from the Mayor of London as part of the New Deal for Young People mission, we’re excited to continue supporting mentors and youth organisations delivering this vital work in London. • The poem "Our trip to Woodrow High House" celebrates the connection to the outdoors that the young people from Free2B Alliance discovered during their Jack Petchey Adventure residential at Woodrow. From exploring the outdoors as a group to trying new things and conquering fears, their trip was all about growing, connecting with nature and creating memories that last a lifetime. Since 2022, the Jack Petchey Foundation has provided thousands of children and young people an opportunity to go on a Jack Petchey Adventure - an opportunity to go on a fun-packed two-night residential in the great outdoors at one of the London Youth’s outdoor learning centres: Woodrow High House - Outdoor Learning & Leisure Centre and Hindleap Warren Outdoor Centre. Find out more and apply for this year’s adventure by 28th February: https://lnkd.in/eb6Cz36E

  • This week, the Digital Talent cohorts from Beyond the Bias , PPCPHighbury Vale Blackstock Trust (Elizabeth House Community Centre), the Albany and COVENT GARDEN DRAGON HALL TRUST had the opportunity to attend the J.P. Morgan offices for an insight day.   The day included carousel networking with colleagues from Cybersecurity and Software engineering, talks from several Tech apprentices who shared their experiences and advice, and a session with the Emerging Talent team who gave information about entry-level opportunities and CV/LinkedIn/interview guidance.   Days like this help boost the employability journey for young Londoners. It was great to see the young people stay engaged throughout the day – their enthusiasm and curiosity were truly inspiring!   Thank you to J.P. Morgan for supporting and funding the Digital Talent programme, and to everyone who helped plan and volunteered their time to create such an invaluable opportunity. #insightday #digitaltskills #digitaltalent

  • Safe, accessible, and nonjudgmental spaces are vital for LGBTQ+ young people. Whether leading a youth group, teaching in a school, or offering support services, small changes can make a big difference in helping a young person feel included.  As we celebrate LGBT+ History Month and this year’s theme of Activism and Social Change, we’d like to highlight the amazing work of one of our members, Free2B Alliance and their youth council, Rainbow Power, who embody these values every day. From challenging stereotypes to creating safe spaces, Rainbow Power demonstrates how the voices of young people can drive real change. These incredible young people are shaping a brighter future through advocacy, education, and creativity.  They developed five simple steps to create more inclusive learning spaces that can help any youth worker ensure their services are accessible and welcoming for LGBTQ+ youth. Read our new blog to find out more about their work: https://lnkd.in/eUZnEENr #LGBTHistoryMonth

  • Recently, we were invited to join our partner Residential Development Agents Society (RDAS) as they celebrated their 30th year at their annual black tie dinner.     As well as raising money for London Youth on the night, our Director of Fundraising and Communications James Hails was invited to give a speech, discussing the work that we do to support young Londoners and thanking RDAS for their ongoing support for our mission of creating brighter futures for young people.    Since 2019, RDAS and their members have raised over £180,000 for London Youth, created opportunities for career insight and given lots of hours of work volunteering at our outdoor learning centres and with our member organisations.    A huge thank you to RDAS for their ongoing support and a special mention to RDAS' outgoing Chair, Adrian Owen as he steps down from one chairmanship to take up the reigns of another, as the Chair of London Youth's new Fundraising Development Board. The support that Adrian has given to London Youth since 2019 has been invaluable and we are looking forward to all the work we will continue to do together. #youthworkchangeslives

  • It's #NationalApprenticeshipWeek and we’re excited to celebrate our latest cohort of apprentices that just completed their Level 3 Youth Support Worker qualification, with thanks to funding from our partner CVC! 🤩 This 18-month diploma is designed for youth professionals to enhance their communication skills, learn educational strategies that foster young people's social development, and support them in exploring their values, beliefs, and identity, all while aligning with the principles of youth participation. At London Youth, we’re committed to supporting people to stay in the sector and see it as a valid career option. All apprentices come from diverse backgrounds and experiences that have led them to youth work, whether through receiving support or volunteering with youth organisations before eventually becoming employees.    Congratulations to our apprentices who have completed the qualification and thank you to our delivery partner UCAN, and CVC for your ongoing support of London Youth! 💜 #youthwork #apprenticeship

  • 📢 Consultancy Opportunity We're inviting individuals or teams to submit consultancy proposals for researching and evaluating the diversity within the outdoor instructing sector. Diversity within the outdoor instructing sector in the UK has historically been limited, and often anecdotal. At our two outdoor learning centres, Woodrow High House - Outdoor Learning & Leisure Centre and Hindleap Warren Outdoor Centre, we've observed a more balanced gender representation among our instructing team in recent years. However, we remain committed to fostering greater ethnic diversity. As part of this commitment, we're keen to understand the barriers and opportunities to employment. The work will take place between June 2025 and August 2026. Application deadline: 3 March 2025 Learn more about the research and evaluation areas and apply now: https://lnkd.in/es77wk5u #outdoordiversity #research
