A few weeks ago, LSBU Global had the pleasure of attending a conference organised by Cormack Consultancy Group (CCG) and Mosaik Education to address how UK universities can respond to displacement and crises overseas. It was insightful to hear from Nshimirimana Bella and Hala Haj Taleb from the Tertiary Refugee Student Network about their experiences of displacement, refuge, and studying in the UK, as well as how the university sector can more meaningfully support refugees. It was also great to hear from colleagues on how universities have responded to crises historically, and how partnership models such as transnational education (TNE) can increase access to education for displaced students. Thanks to CCG and Mosaik for a thought provoking session, and for the opportunity to discuss barriers to creating opportunities for displaced communities and actions to overcome the identified challenges. Ravee and Sophie had the opportunity to view the campus facilities and get feedback from students about their experiences studying on the International Foundation Course and the London South Bank University validated BA (Hons) Entrepreneurship programmes. LSBU Global staff also had the chance to speak to students about mobility opportunities at LSBU, and to discuss further course development with TEAM colleagues. I want to reflect on an incredible summer school experience at the Faculty of Law, London South Bank University I had the privilege of attending summer school at LSBU, where I gained invaluable insights into various aspects of law and essential legal skills. Special thanks to Dr. Andy Unger for guiding us on a fascinating London Legal Walk tour, where we explored the Royal Courts of Justice, attended real-life cases, and even visited the Supreme Court. Throughout the program, we were fortunate to learn from dedicated professors: • Dr. Andy Unger and Dr. Guy Stern introduced us to the intersection of law and technology. • Dr. Tiloma Chandrasekera Thenuwara provided insightful lessons in English legal drafting, case law, mediation, and negotiation. • Dr. Alan Birbeck shared his expertise on business and human rights. Outside the classroom, we explored London’s landmarks and connected with the vibrant city around us. LSBU Global is thrilled to announce that London South Bank University and Ho Chi Minh City University of Education have signed an MoU. This marks the start of an exciting and impactful international partnership. Together we will aim to advance education and research across borders, and will focus on teacher training, professional development, and new academic programmes in Vietnam. With LSBU’s digital projects, such as Digidoc and MGEMS, paving the way, this partnership is set to make a real difference for students and educators, both in the UK and in Vietnam. Having attended the British Council UK-Viet Nam TNE Roundtable event in October, LSBU Global is committed to developing innovative approaches to TNE to build sustainable partnerships with colleagues in Vietnam. Ben Lishman, Herman Prada (LSBU Global) and I had the pleasure of hosting Chaeyoung Oh and Sarah Kim from Hanyang University, Korea. It was a fantastic opportunity for us to discuss study abroad options for our respective students. This opens up possibilities for our Computer Science (& Engineering) students, both at undergraduate and postgraduate level, to attend summer schools, take part in mini placements and much more. As an academic, I’m equally excited at the possibility to deliver a faculty-led module at Hanyang. Perry Michael Gard, final year IT student, was our first study abroad student last academic year (pictured here wearing his Hanyang jacket). Hoping for many more students to follow in Perry’s footsteps.

LSBU Global colleagues have also been reflecting on the last Universities UK International TNE conference this week. During a panel session on ‘Forging Fairer Futures’, our Pro Vice Chancellor International, Stuart Bannerman, reflected on the importance of developing fair and equitable partnerships. When exploring new partnership opportunities, he emphasised that ‘part of equitable TNE is working out what are the expectations, what are the demands, and what the different parties are looking for’, and went onto discuss the importance of validation models to empower the countries LSBU Global works with: ‘Validation is about empowering the countries that we work with, what is it that the country requires, what are they looking for, and if we have to pull out and disappear at some point that capacity remains […] rather than us taking our product from England and pushing it down the throats of the countries we are trying to work with, it comes much more as a ‘What have you got there? How does that compare to what we do?
