Our design team used real life scientific datasets, converting 37 billion data points into motion graphics to create an accurate representation of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami for National Geographic and Blast! Films documentary ‘Tsunami: A Race Against Time’. Using previously unseen footage, interviews with survivors, aid workers, scientists and rescuers, the documentary tells the story of the tragic event, and is now available to stream on Disney+ and Hulu. Last night our Creative Technologist James Pollock, joined Cobus Jooste(Senior Lecturer in IP Law and ICT Law), and fellow academic and industry experts for the Bristol Digital Futures Institute talk, ‘Ethics and Generative AI: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly’, produced by Sarah Campbell. James, Cobus, Ben Ackland of Machine Learning, and Yin Harn Lee from the University of Bristol spoke about the ethics and laws associated with the usage of generative AI within the Creative Industries. There were some fascinating insights and discussions about how we need to navigate through these complex issues. This led to James talking about our AI Acceptable Use Policy, and how we’re implementing ethical procedures in the making of our self initiated sci-fi short film RENO. It has been nearly twenty years since the devastating Boxing Day Tsunami hit the coast surrounding the Indian Ocean. To mark the anniversary Blast! Films have released a documentary, 'Tsunami: A Race Against Time’, to explore what happened and share the stories of survivors that have never been heard before. We created motion graphics for the docuseries, showing the impact of the wave through the use of real life data from the NOAA, making it one of the most accurate recreations of the tsunami made to date.
