🍍 6 MARKETING SKILLS THAT WILL LEVEL UP YOUR LEARNING GAME 🍍 Last week, Hannah spoke to a jam-packed room on this topic at #LNConnect24. But we don't gate keep round hereeeee, so here's the 411... 🍍 MARKETING MINDSET. Start thinking like a marketer. Ditch the word 'learners', they're humans! Don't segment based on job titles. And focus on benefits, not features when marketing your offering. Oh... and ALWAYS answer the 'what's in it for me?' question. 🍍 BUSINESS PARTNERING. Don't waste time: make relationships across the business TODAY. Build lasting relationships with every department in your organisation. Don't just go to people when you need something - nobody likes selfish people! 🍍BE COMMERCIALLY FOCUSED. Concentrate on the business goals and the part you play in that process. Think big picture (and beyond the programme-by-programme approach!) And most importantly, focus on the performance impact of your offering. 🍍 COPYWRITING. Shake it up a bit. Write like a human. Avoid jargon. ALWAYS focus on your audience when you're writing. 🍍 DESIGN. Focus on the visual design of your marketing – it's a direct reflection on the quality of your learning content! If your audience see a beautifully designed piece of marketing – they'll assume the learning is going to be just as good too! 🍍 DATA INTERPRETATION. Use data to level up your learning game! Use data to evidence the efficacy of your learning and marketing. Use it to detail the performance change it's having. Analyse, iterate, review! Think marketing for learning® should be another teams responsibility? Yep. We've heard that before. But there's a simple reason why L&D must own their own marketing: PRIORITIES. Everybody is working towards one united business goal. But the contribution we make varies. 🍍 L&D focuses on the development of employees. 🍍 Internal comms focus on informing employees of ongoing happenings. 🍍 Marketing are focused on acquiring and nurturing prospective customers. So neither internal comms or marketing have the right mindset for marketing for learning. L&D needs to focus on persuading internal audiences to get involved with our learning offering. WE are the ones equipped to answer the 'what's in it for me?' question. WE are the ones motivated by employee development.
