Macegreen are very proud to be working on the #restoration of the Baily’s Buildings – iconic Grade II listed historical industrial buildings located in the fine Somerset town of Glastonbury. In the 19th century this was a thriving industrial hub comprising a tannery, sheepskin, rug, and glove manufactory. The 20th century saw the buildings adapt to the manufacture of sporting goods, famously including boxing gloves worn by such legendary pugilists as Muhammad Ali, Floyd Patterson and Henry Cooper.    Sadly, the buildings ceased manufacturing in the 1980’s and regrettably fell into varying degrees of disrepair. It is the mission of BECKERY ISLAND REGENERATION TRUST (BIRT) to #regenerate the heritage buildings for modern use, and in doing so, create a true asset for #Glastonbury and its inhabitants. The initial funding for the project is from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities’ Town Deal Fund.   Macegreen are delighted to be providing BIRT and their project directors, Dowlas Property Group Ltd, with Contract Administration and Commercial Consultancy services on the regeneration of Baily’s Buildings. The derelict condition of these buildings and the aspirations of BIRT makes for a challenging multi-faceted project, one where costs will need to be closely controlled and challenged throughout all phases. Macegreen’s unique skillsets qualify us to meet this challenge, and by working closely with our fellow client-side consultants - together with forging a collaborative relationship with the main contractor, Beard - we will seek to provide BIRT with a finished product to be proud of, whilst keeping within the tight budgetary and programme constraints. Phase 1 was to convert the old council waste offices into Pre-production Offices with Phase 2 to refurbish the old depot building into a Set Build for Digbeth Loc. Studios and Homes England.  The Peaky Blinders film is now underway! 🎥 🍿   Appointed by Homes England as part of the regeneration of this important Victorian site, Macegreen provided project management, cost consultancy and building surveying services, working closely with all parties to ensure the timely completion of this key studio. This major studio development in the heart of Birmingham’s film industry has created the production base for Steven Knight’s new film. Being sited close to the BBC’s Midlands HQ, the new site will become one of the key #media hubs to grow the city’s #film and #TV industry.
