We have today written to Minister Matthew Pennycook, correcting him that our evidence in respect of the Renters' Rights Bill has been neither ‘alarmist’ nor due to ‘fundamental opposition’ to the changes proposed. Rather, we are realists and pragmatists - and certainly not denialists. This week saw the inaugural Temporary Accommodation Conference 🏠 Hosted expertly by Devonshires and Campbell Tickell, the day proved to be a fantastic event with participation and insights from across the housing sector. The passion for positive change was palpable. Bringing together seasoned experts, sharing experiences and innovate solutions that are proven to tackle the housing crisis head on. Our Head of Living Markets Laurie Emsworth shared the sustainable, cost-effective and scalable solutions we have developed in collaboration with local authority partners. Models that deliver investment in housing. Whilst our Board Advisor Jeremy Stibbe discussed the need for long term strategic thinking across the sector, particularly focused on public/private partnerships and the success they had delivered in his previous roles in Associations, LATCos and Registered Providers. Key messages from the event: 🔴 The negative impacts impractical temporary homes cause are wide ranging and appalling. 🔴 Without immediate change generations face serious health issues, especially children. 🔴 Innovation is possible and local communities are proving they can lead on new initiatives. 🔴 Local Authorities embracing a mixed approach to housing solutions are finding success. 🔴 A central strategy is vital for Councils across the nation to adopt sustainable solutions and best practice. The time is now to shift from reactive short-term stability towards long-term proactive prevention. We are encouraged to be part of the movement that raises the profile of temporary accommodation and the wider housing crisis.
