Amazing to see so many companies joining #ArchitectsAction4AffordableHousing Campaign and supporting our "5 Affordable Housing Priorities for a new government" including no less than six Stirling Prize winners and big heavyweights Allies and Morrison Levitt Bernstein Pollard Thomas Edwards Heatherwick studio Haworth Tompkins Maccreanor Lavington Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios (FCBStudios). We have had thousands of visits to the website and more than 130 practices and organisations have pledged their support. We are now taking on board feedback, honing our recommendations and strengthening our message and will explore opportunities to get our message straight to the heart of Government. With the rebranded Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, the launch of #LabourYIMBY and the reintroduction of housing targets, it is clear that housing is centre stage. Mæ Architects is part of 'Architects' Action for Affordable Housing' campaign. As election campaigning gears up we set out five affordable housing priorities for an incoming government. This week our Founder Director Alex Ely shares his thoughts on linking net zero goals to housing building policies.
On the day the Green Party launches its manifesto we share our Affordable housing solution #2: Link net zero goals to housebuilding policies. 'Architects' Action for Affordable Housing' is a campaign for more and better affordable housing; proposing 5 priorities with 20 policies for a 20 year housing plan. This week we explore how we can deliver on our zero carbon goals whilst delivering housing for those in need. Linking net zero and affordable housing makes sense if we are to create a more equitable, fairer society. It’s often the poorest in society who’s health and wellbeing is disproportionately affected by climate change. Good architecture and well designed homes allows everyone to live with dignity. The race to deliver more homes mustn’t be at the expense of quality or the planet.
