Throughout the year, MDS Trainees have the chance to attend industry events across the country. Last month, Molly Draper from Group 54 visited The National Fruit Show at Kent Showground. Here’s what she had to say about her experience: "I spent a great day at the National Fruit Show! From award-winning produce displays to meeting the experts behind the scenes, it was a good opportunity to learn about the latest in farming technology and the dedication that goes into growing top-quality fruit. I got to see the impressive winning entries, sample delicious fruit, and even check out the trophies awarded to the best of the produce. We often take the fruit on our shelves for granted, but there's so much hard work and innovation that goes into bringing the finest produce to market. Today is International Day of Persons with Disabilities 💜 We're reflecting on recent MDS alum Aoife McGlade's inspiring story about creating more inclusive workplaces. We caught up with Aoife to hear her thoughts on this year's theme - Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future. Here's what she had to say: "The theme this year is leadership in disability. I look at this two ways: the importance of creating pathways for individuals with disabilities to thrive in leadership roles, and also leaders (whether they have disabilities or not) embedding accessibility in organisational culture to promote inclusion in the workplace. I have said it so many times over the last two years that the reason I am comfortable advocating for myself and others now is because of the incredible Trainees (allies) I shared my two year journey with! MDS are helping create future leaders who will make a difference creating a more accessible and inclusive industry!" Inclusion and accessibility are everyone's responsibility. I am usually hesitant to use LinkedIn as a ‘medium’ for sharing sentimental life updates. However, my recent move to Cornwall, following my induction into the MDS Ltd management trainee programme, where I have entered the world of all things food and fresh produce, has got me thinking… I’ll try not to ‘mince’ my words here but ‘meating’ expectations can be difficult when starting a new position, especially considering the high ‘steaks’ of fast-paced, ever-changing working environments. Paired with being afraid to fall short- or making ‘mi-steaks’, this makes for a seemingly daunting recipe, proving easy to forget the excitement and ‘a-peel’ of starting a new chapter. By offering a two-year programme of industry experience across the Farm-to-Fork supply chain through completing different secondments, MDS Ltd is a ‘rare’ find and a ‘prime’ example of a successful nuanced and holistic approach to professional development. I am thrilled to have embarked on this ‘layered’ journey with my first secondment as an Intake Supervisor at Varfell Farms Ltd. - One takeaway ‘flake’ of advice to self: ‘crust’ the process (not your pasty puns!)
