How do you isolate rooftop plant from the structure below? We recently designed and installed these steel frames on Mason SLR restrained spring mounts as part of a project for Hemiko. These frames supported some extract fans as part of a whole building heat pump system and we were pleased to design and install these as part of our package. Equipment like this is often installed on rooftops. Usually, the standard isolation solutions are insufficient, so a vibration specialist is required to build a more bespoke solution. #BuildingServicesEngineering #Acoustics #HVAC

All our restrained spring mounts are galvanised for a long life in external installations. This photo of a raindrop stopped in time was taken by one of our site supervisors, Alex Cean and is surely worthy of a photography award! Restrained spring mounts provide additional restraint against wind loading and other severe transient loading conditions, without interfering with the isolation provided by the spring under normal operating conditions. Mason UK Ltd spring mounts are the most robust on the market and have literally been testing to destruction. #SpringMounts #Engineering #StructuralIsolation #StructuralEngineering

We did it at last! after months of planning... we got there in the end! As an acoustician myself, I know how acoustic consultants value data and it is my endeavour to get as much as possible and as reliable as possible. We went to Sound Research Laboratories and tested different Acoustic Floating Floor configurations along with different covering layers to investigate how well these performed under heavy drops. Furthermore, we also tested drops using a Bowling Ball, as these installations are becoming very popular and there is a significant impact as well! Mason UK Ltd joined forces with RBA Acoustics Ltd. Jordi Femenia initiated conversations with Martin Raisborough to get his thoughts on how to best address the challenges faced when doing Gyms and getting the most cost effective designs for their customers. We established a testing regime, with a set of different covering layers and also different springs, which were tuned at different natural frequencies to understand how these perform. In the pictures you can see the range of Spring Coils that were tested and also Rubber Mounts, all of them were tuned to different natural frequencies, the more data the better! RBA Acoustics Ltd took vibration measurements to get the improvement when doing the drops on the Drop Test base and SRL took noise measurements below. At the end of the day... about 350 to 400 drops were done... and I can tell you that my back today... needs some good rest... Thank you Matt Wildman and RBA Acoustics Ltd, it was a good experience yesterday and hopefully this will help all of us provide a better insight and an educated proposal on what system can perform better. Again, at Mason UK Ltd, we are not just a "Supplier" or a "Manufacturer"... we are an engineering company looking to always provide and help acousticians and customers get piece of mind with the solutions we propose. #acoustics #gym #construction #architecturalengineering #vibrationcontrol

Thanks to the The Concrete Society for featuring Thomas Van Dongen’s article in Concrete Magazine. Tom discussed sustainability and concrete floating floors, topics you probably wouldn’t expect to see together. As mechanical engineer with a passion for environmental issues, Tom wanted to address the big questions head on. Do we have to compromise on acoustic performance if we want to reduce our impact on the environment? Tom has some suggestions for how we should address this question in the context of acoustics and floating floors, so make sure you check out the magazine for his article. #Sustainability #FloatingFloor #Acoustics #Construction

We recently carried out some work at the Whittle Laboratory, an aerospace and energy laboratory at the University of Cambridge. This is the fourth time Mason UK have worked on this campus for Cambridge University and the second time being contracted by SDC. We installed a concrete floating floor for a light workshop, as part of a project we’ve been working on since 2020. The floating floor will isolate vibration caused by workshop activities from the structure, preventing disturbances to sensitive equipment in adjacent areas and other building users. The specification was provided by Sweco. We designed this floating floor system to accept loading from heavy machinery, the heaviest being a Warco lathe weighing approximately 2,500 kg! The floor will provide a natural frequency of 10 Hz and, when lifted, an air gap of 75 mm. Thanks to our site supervisor Alex Cean for some fantastic photos here. #Acoustics #AcousticSolutions #VibrationControl #NetZero

Over twelve years on from the 2012 Olympics, we are still very proud to have been involved in a project that was part of the 2012 legacy. Sadler's Wells East is a new dance theatre and cultural hub set to open this year in East London, specifically in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Stratford. This venue is part of the larger East Bank development, which is transforming the area into a vibrant cultural and educational district alongside institutions like the BBC, UAL’s London College of Fashion, the V&A, and UCL. The new theatre features a 550-seat auditorium that can be reconfigured into a flexible space, making it suitable for various types of performances and events. Additionally, Sadler's Wells East will include six dance studios, a public performance area, a café, and a bar. Mason UK provided a bespoke solution to provide acoustic isolation for the dance studios. For the largest studio, Studio One, we used large rubber bearings to isolate the vast steel trusses from the concrete structure. Tomorrow, Adam Fox and Bruce C. will be attending the University of Oxford for the ASHRAE Region XIV Chapter Regional Conference (CRC). Mason UK is proud to be sponsoring this event, which will bring together ASHRAE European and international members to the UK. Mason UK won an ASHRAE 2024 technology award for our work in vibration control, but we also manufacture high quality products for handling movement in mechanical systems and have been involved in some of the largest infrastructure projects in Europe. Adam and Bruce will be discussing industry standards for mechanical services at Wolfson College. #MechanicalServices #MechanicalEngineering #VibrationControl

Why might you use air springs instead of spring mounts when isolating a swimming pool? Swimming pools are often supported on air springs because they provide a self-levelling system. With springs, the system can potentially lift up when water is moved or when the pool is emptied for cleaning and maintenance. Find out more about our range of air springs and their uses on our website. #AirSprings #VibrationIsolation #SwimmingPool
