Exploring a wealth of materials, products and interiors to inspire your next projects.
About us
Material Source is a destination - both online, and offline at our Studios in Manchester & Glasgow - for architects, designers and property professionals, exploring a wealth of materials, products and interiors to inspire your next projects. From wood, glass, ceramic and concrete to vinyl, paint, textiles and recycled materials, we showcase new products from emerging and established designers and manufacturers around the world, share the latest interiors in retail, hospitality, residential and commercial, and we take a closer look at the people and practices who use these materials every day. Answering to a growing appetite to discover how things are made, we look at how specifiers and makers choose materials, the challenges they face and the thought process behind specifying for their projects or products. Launched in April 2018, our aim is simple – to inspire and inform as well as celebrate the importance of the materials that bring products and interiors to life, especially ones with outstanding environmental content.

Autex Acoustics UK & EU' SpinFix has been developed with the entire product lifecycle in mind - offering end-of-life solutions to reduce environmental impact. The sustainability benefits with SpinFix mounting clips are two-fold. Firstly, by harnessing its cutting-edge pelletising process, Autex crafts the fixtures from RePET - converted ‘waste’ PET from manufacturing leftovers. And secondly, by using SpinFix the need for adhesives during installation are eradicated, making products recyclable: https://ow.ly/qYLi50UhWjZ #acoustics #recycled #recyclability

Could digital twins be the key to hitting the Net Zero targets? Sam Roberts, BIM manager at tp bennett, believes they could well be. "80% of office buildings which exist today will still be in use in 2050" - commented Sam during our recent chat. Pair this with the fact that 40% of annual global CO2 emissions are produced by the built environment, and quite rightly, we can expect to see in the coming years an acute focus on how our buildings perform. And, in response, an increased need for digital twins. But when it comes to the adoption of these tools in our particular sector, is the uptake as great as it is for, say, the aviation and engineering industries, or supply chain efficiency as McKinsey Global Institute reports? And if not, why not? We asked Sam for his views. Read the piece here: https://ow.ly/PV2K50Uhs3m 📸 Victoria Middleton #digitaltwins #AI #technology #netzero #carbon #sustainability #technology

✨ Community 2024 ✨ As we head into our fourth year, we've had an amazing week of celebration at Material Source Studio Manchester. When we opened our doors three-years ago, we did so to offer a space that you - the architecture, design, and property community of the north west - could call your own. Whether it be for gathering inspiration and selecting samples, attending an event, meeting a colleague or client, working from The Hub, or checking out the latest exhibition. For our first ever Community event, we wanted to truly celebrate all the many ways the Studio can be used, all at once, over two-days. And how wonderful it's been. For the enormous amount of support shown from everyone involved, we'd like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. To all who attended and made the activities so vibrant and fun, to the early risers asking engaging questions at our breakfast talks, to our amazing keynote speakers, Stephanie Kyle & John Whittaker CEng, MiMMM, to the local suppliers of the delicious food and drink: Pot Kettle Black, Half Dozen Other, Robert & Victor, Gourmet Galley Catering, LLC, and Cre-ate, the stunning musicians Ada Grace, florist Heather Feather for creating the central installation with Tim Denton, our photographers and videographers for the event, Victoria Middleton, Tim Ainsworth & Damian Bowker, seamless AV by Andrew Dowson, to the hosts of the many workshops, and, of course, the enthusiasm and dedication of our Manchester Studio Partners (tagged in the comments) - plus the brilliant Material Source team - thank you all so much. We hope you've enjoyed joining us at Community. And if you're Scotland-based, we'll be bringing the concept to Material Source Studio Glasgow early next year so watch this space. Head to materialsource.co.uk for write-ups of our two breakfast talks, and check out an extended gallery of images here: https://lnkd.in/eqmiQxAt #community #materialsourcestudio #manchester #events #architecture #design #property #commercialinteriors

Last night's Gingerbread Making Workshop hosted by Crown Paints, Forbo Flooring Systems, Newhey Carpets Limited & Vepa UK Ltd resulted in lots of inspiring creations. And our Community celebration with food, drinks, and live music, was a fabulous way to round off the day. Thank you to everyone who's joined us so far - it's really appreciated - and we look forward to welcoming you for this evening's workshops - including cocktail making with Autex Acoustics UK & EU and Crosswater UK, the Material Source eco-resin session, and our celebration, underway from 4.30pm 🥳! How many products do you think there are on the market that contain graphene? The answers from our audience at this morning's breakfast talk by John Whittaker CEng, MiMMM, engineering director at Graphene - The University of Manchester, which kicked off day two of our Community event, averaged 4,000. In fact, it's 54million. Graphene might just be the most promising material you've never heard of. Read our write-up to discover more about the many potentials of graphene for use in the built environment here ➡️: https://lnkd.in/eDw5DX2w A huge thank you to John for delivering such an inspiring talk as part of Community, and to all who joined us. If you missed the session, or are keen to learn more, be sure to attend our seminar in January at Material Source Studio Manchester where John is a panellist. Head to our What's On page for tickets.
