The University's Centre for Forensic and Family Psychology presents their annual lecture, this years theme is Death by Shakespeare

A captivating guest lecture by Dr Kathryn Harkup, a former chemist who has embraced her calling as a vampirologist and science communicator.
William Shakespeare found dozens of different ways to kill off his characters, and audiences today still enjoy the same reactions - shock, sadness, fear - that they did more than 400 years ago when these plays were first performed. But how realistic are these deaths, and did Shakespeare have the knowledge to back them up?
To commemorate #GlobalEntrepreneurshipWeek, we’re highlighting the inspiring story of Dr Monisha Gupta, a Medicine graduate and former Witty Scholar.
As a medical student, Monisha led a campaign addressing the financial pressures faced by students in their final years of medical school. With backing from the University, her efforts resulted in policy changes that are now adopted by the BMA and medical schools nationwide. For this, the University of Nottingham awarded her the prestigious Vice-Chancellors medal.
💬 "The Witty Scholarship opened doors to opportunities and experiences I never imagined. It’s so much more than financial support—it’s a platform to unlock your potential and drive meaningful change."

Some of the £69.5m in quality-related research funding awarded to the University of Nottingham Nottingham has been allocated to support emerging areas of research strength, enhance our ability to build partnerships and attract further external funding.
In his latest blog, Professor Tom Rodden, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Knowledge Exchange, outlines how the university is supporting schemes to encourage international research collaborations and exciting new cross-disciplinary research projects.
Professor Rodden also welcomed the record £20.4bn for R&D in the government’s autumn budget. This includes core research funding increasing to a record £6.1bn, 4,700 newly funded post-graduate places to inspire a generation of engineers and scientists, and £40m to support the spin-out from universities of new ideas.
UK Research and Innovation’s £25m award for doctoral training at Nottingham further demonstrates how our signature research strengths and ability to deliver a pipeline of innovators will support industry in addressing national challenges.
Professor Rodden writes: “While the HE sector faces serious financial challenges and it would be unfair and unrealistic to not acknowledge and address the stress and uncertainty this brings, we should welcome the government’s commitment to science and innovation.
“Universities are engines of innovation and will play a leading role in the government’s new R&D Missions Programme, which focuses on national challenges such as advancing healthcare and transitioning to cleaner energy. These strategic priorities align with our own RKE strategy and research strengths. Innovation drives growth and we have the ambition and capabilities to make a significant contribution to securing future UK prosperity.”

I’m a Vice Chancellor’s Medal Recipient!
This week I was thrilled to receive the Vice Chancellor’s Medal for my contribution to equality, diversity and inclusion at the University of Nottingham.
I was awarded the medal for my work with Anatome Education, which diversifies healthcare resources provided to students by taking pictures with models from marginalised communities. This means that we have taken groundbreaking images including some of the first anatomical representation of its time with transgender people and disabled people. I am so proud of how far Anatome has come in the space of a year and a half, and I can’t wait to see where the future takes us as we look to expand.
None of this would have been possible without my wonderful dissertation supervisor Dr Deborah Merrick, who has supported me throughout this journey and always pushed me to strive for greatness throughout and beyond my BMedSci dissertation at the School of Medicine, University of Nottingham.
I’d also like to thank the staff at the University who have made Anatome’s work possible. The amazing images have been taken by Steve Galloway and David McMahon, who support in every photoshoot and the soon-to-be Anatome Textbook. Next, Leia Boote and Natasha N. help to assist in Anatome’s shoots, image labelling and overall project development.
Lastly, thank you to everyone who has participated in Anatome in any shape or form, whether that be writing blogs, making videos, or being a guest on the podcast. Here’s to the future of Anatome!

The Clinical Skills Society’s FFP Preparedness Program has finally concluded, after 15 weeks of sessions teaching 4th year medical students in preparation for their upcoming exams. With over 100 different students attending at least 1 session, and teaching delivered by over 30 different final year medic volunteers, the program has been a huge success! Feedback from our sessions highlights just how much of an impact we have had - with every single attendee reporting an increase in their confidence performing clinical examinations!
From orthopaedic history taking to catheter insertion, we have covered a huge range, and I could not be more proud of what we have achieved! A special thanks to Libbi Burchnall for all of her hard work every week, and to Aisia Lea and Daniel Clayman for their input last year in developing the curriculum, as well as Nick Turton and the School of Medicine, University of Nottingham Clinical Skills Team for letting us use their space and equipment! When I started Clinical Skills Society in my 2nd year of university, I couldn’t have imagined how beneficial it would become for so many students and I really am so proud of all the hard work everyone has put in!
I can’t wait to begin working on the 5th year ‘Let’s Pass These OSCEs’ series- where we will be focusing much more on the communication side of clinical skills! Watch this space!
