Medlock is thrilled to share details of a recent refurbishment and extension project undertaken at the David Lloyd Trafford health club. This ambitious project involved revitalising key areas of the facility, including the fitness and leisure spaces along with the dining and social hubs. A particular highlight was the creation of a top of the range spa garden which transformed an underutilised parcel of land into a luxurious retreat. This project represented our first major collaboration with David Lloyd Clubs and its proximity to our Manchester HQ made it especially meaningful. The crown jewel of the project is undoubtedly the new spa garden. Designed to provide a seamless indoor-outdoor wellness experience, this space features an array of premium amenities including a relaxation pool, cold plunge pool, Finnish sauna, Himalayan salt sauna, ice cave and a hydro pool. The fire-and-ice experience adds a dynamic element, encouraging users to alternate between contrasting thermal zones for maximum rejuvenation. Inside the main club we refurbished the swimming pools and modernised the gym floors. The fitness studios, including spaces dedicated to spin, yoga, and group fitness, were upgraded with state of the art flooring, lighting and acoustic systems to enhance member experience. The club room restaurant was given a contemporary new look, blending comfort and sophistication to create a welcoming environment for post work out socialising and dining. Adjacent to the restaurant we introduced a flexible workspace hub which is a growing demand among members looking for professional grade facilities in a relaxed setting. Elsewhere we revitalised the DL Kids Club with a striking new interior scheme that is vibrant, engaging and functional. This space now serves as a dynamic environment for children to play, learn and connect further enhancing David Lloyd’s family friendly ethos. The primary challenge for the project team was managing the delivery of the works in a live trading environment. Detailed works scheduling ensured that different phases of the project could proceed in tandem without disrupting the club’s ongoing activities and encroaching on the members accessibility. The spa garden has quickly become a highlight, drawing both existing and new members, while the revamped fitness, dining, and family areas have significantly enhanced the overall member experience. This project has set a high benchmark for our ongoing partnership with David Lloyd Clubs and demonstrates our capability to deliver complex, high-profile projects within the live environment. #WeAreMedlock

Medlock is excited to share details of a renovation project designed to enhance guest experiences at the Lichfield Garrick Theatre. Our team was appointed to transform the venue’s key public areas, focusing on the lounge bar, cafe bar and box office. The theatre’s continued success and impressive visitor numbers highlighted the need for updated, comfortable spaces that could cater to the evolving needs of patrons while ensuring aesthetic and functional improvements throughout the facility. The refurbishment project focused first on revitalizing the lounge bar and cafe bar areas, both vital to the venue’s day-to-day operations. The design incorporated a series of structural infills to optimize space, creating open, vibrant, and flexible environments that encourage guests to relax and socialize. The ground floor cafe also opens to the public throughout the week enhancing the theatre’s role as community hub maintaining a steady flow of visitors to the venue. Other transformations included the introduction of new disabled access toilets along with a brand new foyer and box office area. To further elevate the venue’s exterior appeal, we installed a modern, visually striking canopy that draws attention to the entrance and enhances the theatre’s street presence. This comprehensive refurbishment has not only refreshed the theatre’s look and feel but has also created more inviting, practical spaces that can accommodate both event patrons and weekday visitors alike. The upgraded amenities and improved traffic flow reinforce the Lichfield Garrick Theatre as a premier entertainment destination, ensuring an enjoyable experience for all who visit. #WeAreMedlock

  • Medlock is proud to share details of an ambitious refurbishment and extension project undertaken at Burleigh Court Hotel and Conference Centre on behalf of Imago Venues. Burleigh Court is situated at Loughborough University and this landmark investment further enhances the amenity on offer at this award-winning venue. Central to the renovation is the creation of "Fifty The Street" a new 140-cover restaurant set within a beautifully repurposed former courtyard. With it's stunning interiors this space is designed to support sustainable dining, offering a 50% plant-based menu that appeals to contemporary tastes and values. The former restaurant space has been transformed into a versatile conference and cabaret venue accommodating up to 250 delegates. This flexible space features advanced soundproofing, allowing it to be seamlessly divided into four smaller, independent conference rooms. Further enhancements include new meeting rooms and casual breakout areas, including a contemporary business lounge, the creatively named “Thingamajig” room, and the cozy Snug co-working space—designed to support both formal and informal gatherings. Elsewhere the hotel lobby received a complete transformation with a new inviting Welcome Lounge replacing the traditional reception area. The refurbishment also included the introduction of Carney & Scott's Bar, named in honour of distinguished Loughborough University alumni Lionesses Karen Carney OBE and Jill Scott MBE. We are delighted to have been entrusted to deliver this important development for Imago Venues and look forward to working with them and the wider project team in the near future. #WeAreMedlock

Having previously supported the LTE Group with a refurbishment of the Cube Building at their Openshaw campus, we were naturally delighted to be asked back to complete further summer modification works, this time in the main campus building. The project aimed to revitalise both the academic and communal areas on campus, enhancing the learning environment and creating new functional spaces for students and staff alike. Our work primarily focused on two key areas: the first floor classrooms and breakout space and the ground floor learning resource centre. On the first floor we were tasked with refurbishing a number of classrooms and the breakout space surrounding the main spiral staircase. Each of the areas received new decorative and floor finishes to modernise the interiors for the students. The most significant part of the project took place on the ground floor where the underutilised learning resource centre underwent a complete remodelling. The space was transformed into four new classrooms whilst reducing the size of the existing learning resource centre. As well as the formation of the new teaching spaces a brand new SEN provision was also created. With the refurbishment taking place during the summer holiday period we had a limited window to complete the work before the start of the new academic year. Careful coordination of all trades from our site and project management team was key to ensuring an on-time delivery much to the delight of the LTE Group. We look forward to working with the LTE Group again in the near future. #WeAreMedlock

  • We are proud to have completed the fit-out of the new Arc Cinema, the anchor leisure offering at the groundbreaking Forge Island development in Rotherham. The cinema boasts eight luxurious screens, each equipped with premium reclining seats to ensure the utmost comfort for moviegoers. Attention to detail was paramount throughout the build, delivering a seamless integration of aesthetics, functionality and latest cinema technology. Undoubtedly the highlight of the venue is the two cutting-edge HYPERSENSE screens, which required intricate installation due to their advanced technology. These screens feature wall-to-wall displays, 4K laser projection, and Dolby Atmos surround sound, creating an immersive experience for audiences. We collaborated closely with specialist teams to install these state-of-the-art systems, ensuring every technical element was perfectly executed. This project marks Rotherham’s first cinema opening since 1990 and we’re proud to have played a pivotal role in bringing such a vital cultural and leisure facility to life. Having previously worked with Arc Cinema to deliver their Hucknall venue, it was great to assist them in the delivery of their sixth site as they continue their organic growth across the UK. We look forward to working with them again in the near future. NBDA Architects #WeAreMedlock
