It was a company activity day today with Thames21, clearing up the river Thames at Hammersmith Bridge. In total, 134 sacks of wet wipes, sanitary towels, traffic cones, cable ties, and various other pieces of litter were cleared from the river bank. Well done, everybody!

Very good results yesterday from the Meteor Cloud Image Recognition Neural Network (NN) that give a good insight into its 'intelligence' in dealing with the challenges of real-world, outdoor conditions. The NN says that the image at 14:08 is definitely water (99.7%), but it's 0.134% sure that there's a bit of debris there. As the light changes at 14:43 it says that's definitely water (99.983%) and the debris looks like watery foam so it drops to 0.0003% probability. The foam clears for the images at 14:55 and 15:01 and the NN is not tricked by the reflection of trees and branches into reporting the slightest amount of debris, it reports 99.999% and 99.998% probability of water.

Once again the Environment Agency proves beyond reasonable doubt in a court of law that a water company has negligently leaked sewage. It has the modern, efficient and cost-effective tools, the know-how and the dedicated staff to do this now and needs the resources to do more.
£500,000. That is the amount Wessex Water has been fined for negligent sewage leaks that collectively killed thousands of fish in two different locations including additional discharges it failed to report. This prosecution is the result of a thorough investigation conducted by the Environment Agency. Pollution incidents like this are unacceptable and we will continue to hold water companies, like Wessex Water, to account for breaching environmental rules. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eh59Rg8U

As at IFAT 2024 back in May, the weather obliged during #WWEM24 to provide some fantastic data for demonstrating Meteor Communications (Europe) Ltd Deep Learning Image Recognition Neural Network. Consistent, correct category scoring of 99%+ (0.99.... probability) across outdoor locations under constantly changing lighting conditions is a major achievement for the latest version of this technology.
