What kind of office space do employees actually want? 🧑💻 Hassell has just released a brand new report looking at workplace trends, and there are some pretty interesting findings. 👉 Only 23% of employees feel they have enough space to focus 👉 Just 35% say they have enough space to collaborate And of all the metrics in Hassell’s survey, they’re some of the most closely related to people’s workplace satisfaction. 👉 Employees with enough focus space report 24% higher satisfaction 👉 Those with enough collaboration space report 12% higher satisfaction While companies roll out flashy perks to bring employees back to the office, the data suggests they might be missing the mark. It’s not about the extras – it’s about getting the basics right. Offices need to be spaces that help employees to do their best work, whether they’re focusing solo or working together. Is AI stripping the personality out of our writing? 🤔 Since Apple released their new campaign for Writing Tools, there’s been some debate around whether they got it right or wrong with this ad. If you haven’t seen it, the ad shows an office worker using the tool to make his email to a colleague more ‘professional’. But the result is arguably a more bland, wordy email with the personality – and humour – sucked out of it. It’s definitely handy to use tools like these to write and edit emails, but AI seems to be making everyone sound the same, removing the personal touch from writing. Five things we’ll be looking for at COP29 🌍 The world’s biggest climate summit kicked off yesterday, and it’s already making headlines. After years of delays, negotiators have agreed on carbon credit trading standards – though critics say it’s a back-door deal that silences too many voices. And with 48 fewer heads of state and the summit held in oil-rich Azerbaijan, there’s a lot of controversy surrounding this year’s talks. Here are the key issues we’ll be keeping an eye one: 1️⃣ Setting a new climate aid goal Rich nations are under pressure to commit billions to help vulnerable countries manage climate impacts. Will they agree on fair contributions and ensure that funds reach those who need it most? 2️⃣ Filling the US climate gap With the US likely to step back from climate efforts under Trump, can China and the EU ramp up their commitments to fill the gap? 3️⃣ Advancing the global energy shift Countries are expected to outline new steps to cut fossil fuels and reduce methane. Can they agree on contentious issues like nuclear power and carbon capture? 4️⃣ Delivering on climate reparations The new fund to help climate-hit nations faces major bureaucratic hurdles. Will the UN’s negotiations ensure the funds reach those most impacted by climate disasters? 5️⃣ Being bold on buildings The World Green Building Council is urging governments to be “bold on buildings”. Will they commit to stronger building codes, reforming climate finance, and setting more ambitious NDCs?
