"Moving to a different country, leaving my friends and family behind, that was a bit scary, but I got support throughout literally everything, so I didn't hesitate about making the decision." When war broke out in Ukraine, Yana Dychakovska was in her fourth year of university. Thanks to the Interlaw Ltd. network, she connected with MFMac and moved in with our Chair, Jenny Dickson, and a plan was created to ensure that she could continue her education while working with us. Although her Ukrainian law degree wasn’t initially recognised in the UK, Yana remained resilient and completed her master’s degree while working at MFMac. With support from our team, who shared textbooks and helped her through exams, Yana succeeded in passing all her exams taken so far, written in her second language. Listen to her inspiring story as part of our #TheNewCVSeries.

The World Future Energy Summit got underway in Abu Dhabi today, with more than 30,000 visitors attending over three days. With the EU's climate monitoring service recently saying that 2024 may have already breached the Paris Agreement's 1.5 degree limit, attendees will be aware of the urgent need for action. MFMac will be closely following developments from this year's summit, which will focus on the role AI and tech innovation can play in closing the gap between where the world is and where it needs to be. For further information on MFMac's work in the Energy & Renewables sector, please head to our website or contact David McGuire or Bonar Mercer. https://lnkd.in/dAmZTHMp #ADSW2025

The EU's product liability framework will soon be updated, with member states required to implement its provisions by December 2026. Importantly, this will create divergence from UK product liability law under the Consumer Protection Act 1987 (based on the current EU Directive) for products placed on the market after 9 December 2016, and medical device manufacturers should begin preparations now. In this article, Partner Valerie Armstrong-Surgenor, Senior Associate Melissa Hall and Trainee Solicitor Josh David Chambers explore the new regulatory environment from the perspective of UK medical device manufacturers planning to introduce their product into the EU market. Scotland's winters bring with them more extreme weather conditions. Already this year, we have experienced storms, high winds, heavy rain, snow and ice - all of which can lead to accidents on icy pavements, snowy roads or at work. If an accident occurs due to the negligence of a local authority, business or individual, you may be entitled to make a claim for compensation. In her latest article, Nicola Edgar, a partner in our Personal Injury team, explores liability in winter accidents and provides guidance on what to do if negligence has played a role.
