About us
We’re a charity that improves the health and wellbeing of children and adults through the healing power of live music. Every year, our professional musicians share live music with over 100,000 people from across the UK, who may not otherwise get to experience it. This includes those living with dementia, who have mental health problems, or who are seriously ill. We believe live music needs to be part of everyone’s health and social care. Why? Because research shows that live music heals. It helps people feel relaxed and confident, and can relieve frustration, stress and isolation. Music can also reduce the perception of pain. It brings back memories and helps create new ones. When you move your body to music – even just tapping a finger – it’s natural physiotherapy. Our dedicated music team handpicks professional musicians through audition. They’re chosen for their blend of musical talent, sensitivity and people skills. The live music experiences they create and share unlock all kinds of emotions – from joy to loss, pleasure to nostalgia. Unlocking these emotions supports people’s wellbeing. We see people interacting with our musicians by doing everything from smiling to getting up to dance or sing. Live music can transform relationships between patients, families, healthcare professionals, residents and carers. When people enjoy music together, they feel more connected to each other, which leads to more personalised care.

We’ve been sharing regular live music with the Marillac Neurological Care Centre for people living with with complex neurological conditions including stroke and acquired brain injury. From soothing piano melodies to uplifting kazoo tunes, these sessions spark joy, foster connection and create meaningful moments for residents, families and staff. Pianist and singer Alaistar adds: "This is more than a performance – it's about connecting through music. I love it, and I find it so rewarding.” 💖

Can you imagine Christmas without live music? 🎄 For many people in health and care settings this December, this will be the reality. Live music is a cherished part of Christmas – from carol singers and classical concerts to children’s school choirs. But in health and care settings the sound of live music, which brings comfort, joy, and connection, is often missing during the festive season. We’re excited to announce that between midday on 3 December and 10 December, every donation you make will be doubled through our Big Give Christmas appeal, helping us reach even more people with the healing power of live music. Your support will help people of all ages in: 🎶 Hospital wards 🎶 ICU and Neonatal units 🎶 Care homes and day centres 🎶 Hospices 🎶 Community groups 🎶 Special schools 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ewtkknWu

On Friday 1 November, over 100 supporters braved the cold and rain to join us at Murrayfield Parish Church in Edinburgh for our annual Winter Warmer! ❄️🎶 It was a night to remember, featuring beautiful performances by our incredible musicians James Dinsmore (singer) and Matthew Brown (pianist), who have each been sharing live music with us for over 25 years. Our audience was also treated to a stunning cello performance by James Paige and stirring bagpipes by Hector Robinson. The evening was full of warmth and joy, with early Christmas shopping at festive stalls from local businesses. We were delighted to welcome the Murrayfield dementia group, who regularly enjoy live music sessions at the church. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters and the dedication of our amazing volunteers, the event raised £1,400 to share #JoyThroughLiveMusic this season and all year round.

Today is #RemembranceDay and our musician Jason Sweeney is visiting Sight Scotland Veterans Linburn Centre, which supports ex-service people with sight loss, for a special commemorative live music experience to mark the day. “Live music has the extraordinary power to connect us on a profound level. It’s a privilege to be able to share music with veterans, to honour their service, and to create a moment of comfort and joy on this important day," says Jason.
