Marshalls plc -The UK’s leading landscaping and building products supplier   Marshalls plc wanted to reduce the waiting time costs for vehicles who delivered their inbound powders and at the same time improve the logistics efficiencies for the hauliers who delivered powder by road tankers to their various sites. Minsterport worked with Marshalls to identify the best approach for their business, with an aim to eliminate the demurrage costs for the vehicles. Marshalls silos were surveyed by Minsterport, and the first production site was identified to run a trial on the equipment. The silos were fitted with strain gauges to accurately measure the weight of the powders in the silos, strain gauges can be fitted post to most silo installations. The strain gauges were then “connected” to Minsterports’ software platform “MySilo”. The web-based platform is a standalone and is accessible in real time on most electronic devices (computer, mobile, iPad) with web access. The “MySilo” system shows the silo capacity, description of the material in the silo (e.g cement, pfa, limestone) and the real-time weight of the powder in the silo. In addition, the system can show the time of vehicle deliveries or collections, silo throughput/usage per hour, day, month, and year. The latest AI technology will also allow the system to email the software user (or multiple users) at any point (subject to client requirements) from the silo being empty to the silo being full; the system will also emails users when a delivery is required. The web interface is friendly and multiple silos can be viewed at one time. All the latter information can be downloaded over anytime period and stored as an electronic file and/or be printed. Many clients look at the reports to evaluate when deliveries are made or collected in order to evaluate the KPI’s for their logistics providers. Operational teams can view the tonnage rates per hour to forecast when silos will be full/empty and/or when to order a delivery. For the initial installation Marshalls site staff and their logistics/powder provider had access to the “MySilo” web platform. The Minsterport equipment showed that some of the smaller silo capacities were actually larger than the working capacity which the silos were previously operated to, and this helped significantly in reducing costs and improving the delivery profile. The installation and shared access gave all users real time information, and over a few weeks they eliminated demurrage costs, return loads, and wasted journeys. The overall saving for Marshalls was, and continues to be, more than £100,000 per annum; Marshalls have decided to operate the Minsterport system over multiple sites and continue their strive for efficiencies using modern technology. Minsterport are always happy to meet new & existing clients and show them the latest technology on a free of charge basis. #Silo #Silos #Silomanagement #cementindustry #oilandgas #logisticssolutions #telematics
