At Mitie, we are proud to shine a light on our #Exceptional colleagues. Introducing Maria Wood, Mitie’s Soft Services Manager, who has gone the #ExtraMile to keep her laboratory facilities in Yorkshire spotless. The laboratory is used for cutting-edge experiments and is located 1.1 kilometres below the ground. Maria said: “It takes about eight minutes to make the descent into the mine inside a steel elevator, which looks a bit like a shipping container. To go into the lab we have to wear double PPE, and we are careful to monitor materials that shed particles, such as cardboard. We have all mod cons – two toilets, water coolers, microwaves and kettles; everything you would expect in a lab just that we are 1.1 kilometres underground.” Thank you for delivering the #ExceptionalEveryDay. A serious cold snap has hit the UK and The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings of snow and ice.
