Modular Matters 2024 Fantastic to catch up with some excellent clients and applicants alike and to spend time with my colleagues Sue Eustace AssocCIPD, FREC and Amy Lammie over the last two days in Coventry. It has to be said that there was some "doom & gloom" after the morning session. This caused by the predictable absence of the first keynote speaker, Lee Rowley, Housing Minister, the demise of yet another MMC Housing provider and the general state of the house building sector. Personally my spirits were lifted in the afternoon by a great presentation by John Fleming from Vision and Tide showing some exemplar projects. Noticeably and demonstrably their success is within the Buy to Rent, Student Accommodation, Hotel sector and the achievement of building the tallest modular building in the world in Croydon. Day two had a focus on more "Commercially" based Government projects for Education, Health and MOD. Great exemplar projects from Christopher Leese from TG Escapes Eco-Buildings showing how a more bespoke approach to the provision of school buildings has a place in the MMC sector - where perhaps volumetric fears to tread. Narciso (Chiso) Simioni from MTX Contracts Ltd and their fantastic solution for the John Radcliffe Hospital – 5 Storey Critical Care Building. It was Paul Ruddick, Chairman of Reds10 to deliver the "Graveyard" slot at gone 4pm. Paul's presentation kept everybody engaged on their Imjin Barracks Single Living project which is truly a wonderful state of the art solution for the Army. They delivered the project as a Tier 1 Contractor hopefully making the award of similar projects far easier to companies of their size proving that they can mix it with Tier 1's. If there was a theme to take away it was "early engagement" and forging "partnerships with clients" to deliver projects on time, on budget and to superb specifications. All in all an enjoyable and worthwhile two days. https://lnkd.in/efJTujVT

Earlier this week I attended Day 1 of Modular Matters 2024. It was great to hear Helen Spencer and Mike Ormesher presenting the tools and capabilities available to support members of OSHA Off-Site Homes Alliance. It is undoubtedly a challenging time for the sector at present, but at the heart of every presentation was innovative thinking and approaches to improve performance, reduce carbon and ultimately to achieve #betterprojectoutcomes. A particular highlight was hearing John Fleming present the achievements and successes of Vision!
