Imagine you have been given £1 million and have to give it to a good cause TODAY. Which one would you choose and why? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments. Sadly we don’t have a spare million to give away, but thinking about our own motivations for supporting certain causes can be really helpful when we’re asking Major Donors and Trusts for funds to support our causes. That feeling of being drawn to a cause because you empathise or support their work is the secret sauce you’re trying to achieve with your applications. Our imaginary £1 million could one day be a real £1 million in a donor's hands, and you want your cause’s name to be the first that springs to mind when they’re looking to give it away. 💻 What does your online presence say about your cause? 💻 If a donor were to visit your website what would their first impression be? These days, your website and social media channels are key ‘shop fronts' for your cause. Here are a few things your cause should be conveying online: ⚡️ A sense of purpose- they’ll want to see a clear, concise message about your mission, the problem you're addressing, and the difference you’re making. ⚡️ Professionalism- a website and social media that look professional can give donors a sense that their funds will be handled responsibly. ⚡️ Showcase the people behind the cause- your online presence is a great way to showcase not only the beneficiaries of your support but also the people who work and volunteer for the cause. ⚡️ Community- social media or forums are the perfect way to demonstrate that donors who support your cause will be part of a wider community. ⚡️ Transparency- showing how funds are used on your website demonstrates that your cause is transparent and accountable for delivering results with donors' donations. Of course, this takes time and resource to set up and maintain but savvy use of evergreen content on your website alongside a strategy for updating specific pages throughout the year means you will always be presenting your cause in its best light to new donors.
