Motherson Group participated in the Startup BW Summit in Stuttgart, Germany that brought together over 2,800 attendees, including startups, universities, research institutions, corporates, and investors for a day of innovation and collaboration. A highlight of the summit was the ‘Startup Corporate Collaboration’ panel, organised by STARTUP AUTOBAHN powered by Plug and Play. Our colleague Urszula Kosidlo joined Manuel Kallenberger from out for space feat. karuun®, a pioneering startup that is transforming composites with natural rattan materials.   The panel emphasised the significance of partnerships between startups and established corporations, focusing on essential elements such as open communication, mutual respect, and leveraging each other's strengths. The collaboration between Solace Power and Motherson We are thrilled to share the details of our latest innovation in collaboration with Solace Power, presented at STARTUP AUTOBAHN powered by Plug and Play. This project focuses on wireless power sensor heating for thermoplastic exterior car parts. Current standard solutions often come with challenges such as traditional heating elements in bumpers that rely on physical power connectors. These connectors result in complex geometries and manufacturing processes, leading to visually unappealing designs. Additionally, they require precise coil placement to avoid impairing radar functionality. Our collaboration with Solace Power brings an innovative solution that eliminates the need for physical wire connectors through a custom wireless power design, a newly designed heating element, and advanced embedded molding techniques. This approach generates up to 70 Watts of heat, enables power transfer over distances greater than 10 mm, and ensures efficient heating without affecting radar functionality. During the Startup Autobahn 2024 we invited attendees to visit our booth for a live demonstration of the Proof of Concept (PoC) unit. This provided a firsthand look at the capabilities and benefits of our new wireless power module. We are happy to announce and are grateful for receiving this year’s prestigious Plug and Play Sustainability Award** for the project between Motherson and #TideOcean – “Protecting the Environment by Using Ocean-Bound Plastic in Automotive Components.”   Through our collaborative efforts, we have made significant strides in shaping the sustainable future of the automotive industry. Our project has demonstrated the potential of recycled plastics to replace a significant amount of series materials in large components and paved the way for a more sustainable approach in our industry. After rigorous testing, Motherson successfully produced an instrument panel with a significant percentage of #tide’s material, achieving properties comparable to those of previously used virgin plastics.
