About us
Mount Cook Adventure Centre is a not-for-profit organisation which opened in July 2016 in Wirksworth, Derbyshire. We are dedicated to providing access to the outdoors and outdoor activities for all, especially young people and those who would not otherwise have the opportunity. Our eco-friendly Centre can accommodate up to 140 guests in modern, ensuite bedrooms. A further 40 guests can be accommodated in our brand new, wooden Glamping Pods. Full catering is provided in our impressive glass-fronted Main Dining Hall, plus two indoor classroom spaces. Our activities are an opportunity to try something different! Whether your scaling great heights on our high-ropes course, unleashing your inner Robin Hood with our archery sessions, or learning to paddle with our kayaking courses, we believe you are never too old to learn a new skill and overcome new challenges. Our other activities include: indoor climbing, bush craft & den building, team challenges, orienteering, fossil finding & gem panning, exploratory walks and caving. If you are a school or university, youth group, charity, corporate group, a group of family or friends, or sports club - we would love to hear from you! We offer bespoke activity packages and residential trips which will suit your requirements and budget. Get in touch for more details!

We are proud to announce we are FINALISTS for this years' Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Apprenticeship Awards! We are in the top 3 in the SME Employer of the Year category. Mount Cook works hard to provide a well rounded education to our activity instructor apprentices and business administrator apprentices. Whether it's excursions, work experience at other businesses, or achieving additional qualifications that suit the learners passions, we support our apprentices to succeed and thrive. Having this hard work recognised is a real honour. Fingers crossed for a win tonight 🤞 Wish us luck, and we're looking forward to changing our thermal base layers and walking boots for some black tie attire!! #apprenticeshipawards #apprenticeships

A huge thank you to the sales team at Rab who joined us for a CSR volunteering day this week. They sanded and varnished our glamping pods to help protect them against the elements and keep them in good condition as long as possible. We said thank you with breakfast, lunch, and a taster session of an outdoor activity - our new Via Ferrata! Thank you so much to RAB for spending your time helping us. We have lots of charities and youth groups staying with us this summer who will be grateful for the cosy waterproof pods. 🧗♀️🎯 If you have a team that is looking for a fun day of making a difference in the outdoors, ask about a CSR day at Mount Cook! 🎯🧗♀️

Team Mount Cook are SO READY for the UK Challenge this week! We hosted a stage last year, so were unfortunately were unable to take part - we are back with a vengeance in 2024! We are pleased to be entering our second all female team (our first female team is pictured below!) Our team is made up of activity instructors Charlotte, Ruth, and Suzie, Guest Service Coordinators Alex and Sarah, and Sales & Marketing Manager Madeline. This is an amazing opportunity to team build in our favourite venue - the great outdoors. Bonds formed on this event truly last a lifetime, with teams cycling, running, paddling, and puzzling their way through three days of stages. #pushingboundaries #openingminds

The Mount Cook team including Steve, Robin, Colin, Madeline and Lesley got their finest attire on to join the UK Challenge for their fundraising dinner at the Shard! The evening was to raise money for Beefy's charity foundation, and to get us excited about this year's UK Challenge event in Dartmoor. See more about Beefys here: www.beefysfoundation.org

This is a GM4X off-road wheelchair, and our newest addition to Mount Cook! it requires one person to push, and one person to steer - this will allow guests with limited mobility to get around our site, and even up to Black Rocks on the High Peak trail! At Mount Cook, we are passionate about providing outdoor experiences to all - small changes and additions like this can make all the difference to someone who struggles on rough terrain. #outdoorsforall #outdooreducation #accessibleoutdoors
